Fuel Pump issues from low fuel level in tank.
#16
I just picked up another 5.7 with a 38 gallon tank. I learned on the Tundra forum the gas light comes on when there’s 8 gallons left. This is my first fill up, and my first time testing the range. Less stops
So after each fill up, I reset trip A. Whenever DTE reaches 0 or refuel, I reset trip B and I have an idea of how many more miles I can drive before I’m almost about to run out. I typically take a worst case scenario so for instance on the 5.7 I will say 10-12mpg not towing and at highway speed I can go another 40 miles in the LX or another 50-55 miles in the 26 gallon Tundra…worst case. Depending on my speed and conditions, I will drive more or less but I’m definitely not looking for a gas station as soon as gas light comes on.
Over the years I’ve played a few tricks on passengers showing them the DTE 1 mile and I’m towing a loaded enclosed trailer running 75+ mph and have no intention of stopping for gas anytime soon.

My E46 went 158k miles before I traded it, with nearly every fillup over 15 gallons, most over 15.5, and a non-trivial number at 16 or more. It had a 16.2 gallon tank. No fuel system issues ever.
Nowadays, we typically fill somewhere between 1/4 and the light coming on.
