Temporarily it should be fine. Wheel/tire sizes don't really matter when you're on a spare.

‘Bro

The only solution is to have non-staggered tires, and a full-time, spare tire,

Think about it, look at the photos below. These are a map. Could you imagine you’re taking your lifelong dream of travelling across America in your fancy sports car or your big luxury sedan. Then you have a flat and your 235-35-21 wheels pops. What do you think the chances are of a tire shop in this vicinity, that would have it in stock Could you imagine if they told you they have to order it But your tire goes busted on a late Saturday night. And the only tire shop in town doesn’t open till Tuesday because they take Sunday and Monday off You wouldn’t have this issue in your LX 570 and neither would I in either of my Toyota 4Runners

If something like that happens I would just tow my car somewhere waiting for a replacement (or 4 depending on what I was driving and my tire wear levels) and rent something to wrap a trip up. Only my tow capable vehicles have matching spares like that since having a tow vehicle go down is a massive pain.....the cars are fine with temp spares, the LSs had fullsize spares but my 460 is on altered tire sizes now so it's only a temp spare in practice. When my wife had a similar failure to Steve recently she was only 4 miles from home but the car still drove oddly with the original spare equipped.

If I had no spare tire, I'd be running run flats AND have a AAA membership too.

I would argue, all run flat cars should have a full size run flat spare.

A temporary spare would work, but it’s still only an emergency solution.

Nope. Even staggered tires typically have the same diameter. For my E90, My 17” winters (in the factory size) are very close to the same size as my old staggered 19s, and my current staggered 18s. I have used them as spares when repairing or replacing wheels/tires many times over the pas dozen years.

The 275/35/19 front and 285/30/20 rear tires my G80 came with are likewise almost identical in diameter, and a common spare could be used for either, were I so inclined.

For instance on a temp spare I’m not going to continue on a long highway trip…so I still need to stop somewhere and get a tire.

i’m not arguing that a temporary spare won’t fit on stagger tires. I’m just saying for the ultimate peace of mind matching size tires with a full-time spare is the ultimate road trip solution

even if you bent a rim. At least you have a full-size rim to keep your journey going,

On our '24 X3 with run flats I ordered the temporary spare option. I did the same the '19 before it. So far I haven't had to use the spare on either one.

Totally agree, but with more and more cars having staggered wheels and real big wheels it’s not really practical anymore.

Your experience gives me one more thing to keep in mind when it's time to upgrade my car.

The tires should be popular tire store IN STOCK sizes. Haha

Oh man, bummer you have to wait on tires too, didn't see that coming.

It’s because of where I had it sent. I didn’t realize that the TireRack road hazard warranty would pay even if I didn’t order replacement tires from TireRack, so I had it towed to where I always have tires installed. Had I realized that I would have had it sent to Radial Tire in Silver Spring who would have had the tires to put on it tomorrow.
