People that spend $100,000 on cars like I do generally aren't interested in going in and modifying the engines in their new cars. We also generally are busy professionals who don't have the ability, facilities or time to work on our cars ourselves.
Yep.....why do aftermarket mods when one can get an S63 with a hand-built AMG power plant directly from the factory, although for some reason I didn't see it (or the S65) currently on the Mercedes U.S. website.

The argument that a heavily modified car can beat a Plaid makes no sense. The reason the Plaid is amazing is because it offers that performance out of the box in a passenger car. 99% of car buyers don't want to modify their cars, and modifying cars has consequences in the form of lost warranty, expense, reduced reliability etc. You have none of those issues in a Plaid.

Many do exactly that if they need warranty work or sell the car

Also not feasible to have them un-modified for warranty repair. If we want a fast car that we can also drive every day and that we don't have to worry about all of this, the Plaid is an incredible car. When you post this about tuning cars do you notice nobody ever agrees with you about it?
The absolute most somebody like me might do is install a tune, maybe. Its invisible and easily reversed but even that would void the warranty and I just can't be bothered to even worry about all of that.
I agree with Striker. I’ve been tuned since 617 miles and I started throwing on bolt ons little after 800 miles on the odometer. Hawking down a $200k+ car on the track is the cherry 🍒 on top and makes it all worth it.

This is also a track car you tow places...not something that is your daily driver like a Plaid would be for somebody.
I'm glad you enjoy that but I have no interest. I want to buy a car that performs and looks the way I want it to from the factory. Doesn't mean I am not a car enthusiast.

I get it. I only had a K&N filter on my GS300 and only because you can clean them as opposed to replacing them and Magnaflow mufflers that were as quiet as stock. Neither of my ISs had engine or exhaust mods. The Civic engine is stock. There is a Hondata flash that adds something like 40 crank hp but some owners blew their engines and it’s not worth the risk to me.
next they'll be saying you're not a 'REAL' enthusiast.
of course you are. you're just not a modder. i did that a lot with one car, got it out of my system.
and for every 5 persons who mod, i bet 4 of them ended up with some collaterial issues (codes, reliability, bad ride, etc). but cool when it works, lol.
