A major reason for that is better rustproofing and resistance to the corrosion-elements, particularly in Snow-Belt states.....although the thin, tin-can sheet metal on many of today's vehicles is far more susceptible to dents and damage from hail and minor impacts than the much thicker sheet metal of decades ago.

My fragrance canister was empty again, so I ordered a refillable replacement. Now my car smells like a Tommy Bahama store lol

This is a silly feature that I never expected I would enjoy as much as I do!

Do you find it strange that pretty much every European car built before probably the 2000's had that "bank vault" feeling when closing the door, yet today's cars that don't have that feeling are safer in a crash?

It’s because crash safety is about dissipating crash forces, so things that crush and deform improve safety.

That's a feature I wish Audi did on my generation, I have aniline leather in the W12 but the semi in the 4.0 could do with a scent system like that.

You need to make sure you are looking at cars adjusted for inflation, a 54k car back in 06 is 90k now. Pre-2000s cars that were 60-70k are 150k easily now.

I've seen no difference when looking at the same price brackets adjusted for inflation and in cheaper brackets the newer stuff is better than the older.

They did away with the system in the 7 Series which is no joke one of my big negatives.

I believe you 100% lol! A certain smell is a big part of the experience of a top level car

What’s amazing about it is the smell never lingers in the car. It blows through the vents but when it’s off, the car smells like it should. We’ll see if using the non MB Specific scent makes a difference with that.

In not surprised since these cars move so much air, it's way more than you would think with how quiet the fans are. Do you have adjustable footwell/upper temp split in the W222?

Oh yeah, its all adjustable. Apparently the fragrance is designed specifically not to linger on interior materials or clothes

I really wish Audi did that system lol! Hopefully the aftermarket stuff behaves the same way as OE

Those of us in lesser cars have to resort to using these. This is the exact one I have:

I feel nice and relaxed every time I get into the car. One clip lasts about a month. Can't get more cost effective than that.
