that's great!!!! finally... given the gridlock in washington, i'm stunned that got through.

edit: this thread seems to imply it was approved but NHTSA is writing their own special requirements.

Speaking of new vs old cars in crashes my wife managed to crash yet another car in the form of the LS460 this time.

She failed to see a 2005 Camry and turned out and nailed it, broke all 3 control arms, the strut bent in half and blew the tire, subframe got shifted 3 inches to the pass side and totally ruined the wheel arch and door.

The LS needs a bumper, new crash bar (minor deformation), grill from scuffs and a headlight. The Camry was instantly killed and you can really see the massive difference 1000lb makes as well as a far stronger structure.

Side effect is she is now banned from my cars and will be leasing some ****box with driver aids from whatever brand is cheapest. The only plus side is the other guy had no insurance or license so he just let everything go unreported.

I'm never going to get this damn paint to match again

She clearly needs something with auto brake and cross path detection as the skill issue is real and she doesn't deserve real cars anymore.

That is a huge bummer, but its just a car and it can be fixed, no metal just bumper and light. At least she's alright. Accidents happen, could have happened to you too and something stupid like that will happen to you at some point in your life. My crowning glory was backing up into a concrete post right in front of a buddy of mine years ago. At least thats my crowning glory so far lol.

Your wife certainly deserves to drive a good car, don't be so hard on her I'm sure she feels just terrible.

The paint will match fine. The paint match when my LS460L was repaired in the back was perfect. I couldn't find any issues with the paint match and I am very picky. Gotta find a great shop

I nicked a wall in my first month of driving, never anything since then because I don't want to make careless mistakes. If someone hits me well that's different, she didn't properly check before leaving the subdivision so it's totally a lack of care issue.

Im really hoping it just the crash bar corner lol! I'm back home now and I'm going to remove the remnants of the bumper and see what exactly I'm dealing with. If it's just the crash bar then I'll probably keep the car, both headlights are being replaced though so they match as that would drive me crazy.

I'm also hoping I find somewhere as good as where you went for the paint. That's totally outside my skill set so I'm reliant on a shop to do it right lol

You're really young still lol. At some point in your driving life you will make a careless mistake which will result in damaging your car. She made a mistake, it happens. Don't give her a hard time about it...it happens to everybody.

I would replace both headlights too...I'm sure its just the crash bar. Hood fits fine, wheel looks fine, it will be fine.

True, he does and I know the same guy but said person has health issues and he can't really work anymore. If this happened 2-3 years back it would be less of a concern

I may just see if the Lexus body shop gives a sane quote that won't total the car lol!
