At the carwash getting all the sand and salt washed out of the Pacifica
One thing about having a rooftop carrier where you put all your sandy stuff is the car gets COVERED in sand. I went last night had ran it through a touchless wash to blow all of that off and out of the seams etc so that the carwash today wouldn’t drag it all across the paint and scratch it.
It has Berber mats and the salt gets down in them and doesn’t want to vacuum out. They had all the mats out and were using steam and a drill brush to get it all out. (I love this car wash)
Pacifica really did great, I really like this van a lot.
You can get a Suburban with a bench seat, I was surprised to find that out.
Got back from the beach, man we had the Pacifica LOADED. We normally take 2 cars, but we decided to do it in one. The empty seat is for my mom.
We got 26.6 MPG coming back which given the load (it felt HEAVY) 3 adults 2 kids and the roof carrier drag and a fully depleted hybrid battery was pretty good. Sat in stopped traffic for about 35 minutes trying to get across the bay bridge too.
Here's a front shot of my old ES in the garage with the S580...you can see the yellowed headlights and all the rock chips on the hood
Holy crap, did you guys go to the beach for a month? Did you leave anything at home besides the Mercedes?
I wonder why the PHEVs allow the battery to get down to 0. I ran into similar issues with Wrangler and GC PHEV rentals in the past
So it never goes all the way to zero. It shows zero as in there is no usable EV only range. It still drives a lot on battery though as a regular hybrid. It will still largely accelerate away from a stop in full EV even with the battery depleted

Gotcha thanks for clarifying! My rentals never went above 0 lol

I'm not an engineer, but from what I understand, they program it that way, because, to allow a battery to get to absolute zero on the charge-level is not good for it, and can even damage it or cut short its life.

Yeah no hybrid ever goes all the way to zero.
What’s interesting is the van was so loaded, and Rt 50 is highway speeds with traffic lights, so lots of hauling down from 70 to a stop. It would actually get a charge to 1% every time I came to a stop at a stoplight lol. It also charges 4-5 miles (8% or so) coming down Sandstone Mountain coming back from WV.
Drove the S580 today after having driven the Pacifica all week. What a car lol. I’m a pretty happy camper with the ol’ garage right now.
