Pretty sure the merger (Daimler Chrysler) didn't end successfully but IDK.

Yeah a Chrysler hood ornament doesn't do it for me, sorry Mike.

In my pic my wheel is turned yet the logo stays the same... I love that.

I like how they always put the star right in the center so when you turn the wheel it spins right in its center

Hardly, that was Mercedes at their worst. Chrysler at that time was actually quite profitable. Jurgen Schrempp was a terrible Mercedes CEO and is to blame for both Mercedes dark era in the early 2000s and much of Chrysler’s issues leading up to their bankruptcy. They completely gutted engineering talent, slashed budgets, cheapened components, and dictated everything from Germany. An unqualified disaster really.

Mercedes actually lost a lot of money by the end. They had invested in Mitsubishi as well at the time and had to walk away from that with substantial losses.

Chrysler may have been profitable but they were making terrible cars. The relationship with Daimler improved Chrysler’s products tremendously.

To be fair the diamler era Chryslers might be an improvement over the pre-Diamler era, but they're still not great.

Some fixer uppers end up just being too much.

…which ones? I’m genuinely curious to know what got improved by Daimler. The sole good things that came out of that relationship was the LX platform cars and the Hemi. And you can thank Dr. Z intervening for that.

Reliability remained average to poor, Daimler cheapened cars already in production and the ones in development, and the interiors got even worse. The Caliber, Patriot, Compass sucked. The Grand Cherokee got an interior filled with the nastiest plastics and lost off road capability. Rust proofing was dialed back. The Jeep Commander and Chrysler Aspen came and went and were never competitive. The Pacifica was ahead of its time but landed with a dud. The ugly Sebring and Dodge Avenger were just embarrassing. The Dodge Journey was destined to be a fleet queen from the beginning. The popular mk1 Liberty was followed by the awful mk2 Liberty and Dodge Nitro.

They were really putting out the crappiest cars possible during that era. If Daimler had improved Chrysler they would have kept it and not fired Schrempp.

Reminds me of an old joke. How do you pronounce Daimler Chrysler in German?

The Chrysler is silent.
