Lol at the backup camera on the LR4!! I've always thought these looked good but the 3.0S sounds so strained and unrefined.

Striker, I watched the 4.2 Audi V8 being torn down the other day. A plastic timing chain guide ruined the engine and what a total pita it was to get there.
Yeah that engine is not good unless you have the RS4/5 R8, or D4 A8 version, those all have metal guides instead of those non-sense plastics ones that every other 4.2 FSI has. The only reason the A8 got the metal ones in the D4 gen was the 4.2 was already discontinued in all applications other than R8/RS car when it came out and the 4.0 was not ready yet so they just dropped RS4/5 engines in to every D4 4.2, the parts lookup is identical for the two other than intakes.

I have done 3 non-RS 4.2s, oddly enough the 3.0T (supercharged) engines have the metal guides but the 3.2 V6 doesn't.....both systems are the exact same as the V8s though and the V10 is similar on paper but I have not yet had reason to take on down that far. I've only done valve covers and carbon cleanings on those. It really sucks since if they didn't have these issues I would buy a 1st gen Q7 4.2 in a heartbeat but I don't want to risk it and the 3.6 engine is not exactly the best tow engine for the amount of headache it sometimes has. The 3.0 TDI is the only real choice but they cost a lot for what they are and I can't bring myself to spend that on a work SUV.

It was terrible and we should’ve bought the LR4 when we had the chance. I still like them.
The LR5 is a massive departure that's for sure! Almost insane they went that far away from what people liked about the LR2/3/4 but at least we have the GX now, I would personally still get an LR4 over any GX though due to overall package and price considerations.

Oh I can't see this going wrong......I don't know why they went with the 3.0S and all it's issues lol! I do agree with them though, these are very very nice cars as far as ride and very capable if you are willing to roll dice on the engine.
Because it makes good videos lol

The difference is that a Torsen Centre diff is a limited slip centre and in the case of Toyota SUVs and Lexus cars are incapable of sending all 100% torque to the full front axle or the rear axle. They are all permanently fixed with a front/rear biased. For instance, the LS500 is 31% front / 69% rear on dry roads to as much as 48% front / 52% rear on slick surfaces, you would need one front and one rear tire to lose power to get stuck…not one tire, a Lexus LS500awd cannot possibly send all 100% power to one tire, each axle always receives torque

If just one tire gets you stuck, that is a 2WD scenario

This would apple to the new Sequoia when 4H is not engaged. Or your Sequioa is 2H is selected

One little part takes down such an expensive machine. Not sure if worth fixing at that point? Engine is so old

i still don't get the supposed difference between "awd" and "full time 4wd".

yes i know some monster vehicles have locking differentials (center, front, rear?) so individual wheels "can't" slip (unless both sides/ends are ) but isn't that a separate issue/feature?

The difference is the presence or absence of a transfer case

A Mercedes G, Lexus LX600, Ford Raptor can do that too.

Your Audi V12 if awd has a torsen centre differential.

How,old was the Audi 4.2V8?
My car has a crown gear in the center. Did you not read anything I wrote? Not a V12 btw......

You clearly don't understand or can't comprehend how these systems work.

You are just outright wrong. You do not understand how the drivelines work.

He optioned it (or rather the Dynamic Handling Package, which includes it), so I suspect he's aware.

So took the tire off the old ES and the AAA guy and I can’t find anyplace it’s leaking air, including the valve stem. Sprayed it all over with soapy water, nothing. Seems to be holding air 🤷🏼‍♂️

I took it to get the oil changed. Been an embarrassing length of time lol

She’s still in pretty good shape inside, needs a good cleaning.

Looks good. I’m not a fan of the wood colour. But it does have a classy gated shifter

You “could” get the timing belt changed while your at it?

That ES is beautiful inside. I’m not usually a fan of black interiors but with the dark red exterior and the red woodgrain it looks like a very rich combination.
