The only weather over here that might make me reconsider driving is hail, potential floods in the area or rain so heavy that it fills the streets with gravel (I practically live at the base of a mountain). Some decent rain every now and then actually keeps the roads around here grippy - if it hasn't rained for a week, there's so much dust/pollen/whatever mixed with who knows what's (not) leaking out of some cars...

As for snow - bring it, I'm still on two sets of tires/wheels (summer oem 18 / winter gs300 17). Always fun to troll people that mock RWD in the snow

Time for more forum advice. Pilot sport 5 vs premiumcontact 7 vs f1 eagle asym 6. The typical tyre reviews seem a bit late this year so I guess I'll wait another month. Primacy 4 plus isn't an option, not manufactured in 245/40/18. The pre-plus model is made in OE variants with acoustic foam, which has me thinking.

Re: keeping cars mile-free - if I ain't using it, it ain't mine. "Beaters" are backup cars when I need to haul / when I'm waiting for parts (practically never, <3 lexus).

The fun times of life... Why is it the same week that you pay off the Highlander and receive the title is the same week you back it into the garage (carelessly) and break the mirror and damage the door skin by hitting the garage door jam? FML

I never realized I had a car so shiny until I saw the sun bounce off of it on to road signs, never seen this before in my life. My guess is the sun bounced off the circular emblem on the hood. I was like WTF at first. It looks strange in pics but imagine how the sun reflects off watch crystals.

Sorry to see JDR76's mishap.
I'm curious what would be the cost to repair something like that? Do you claim it against your insurance?

$500 deductibles are your friend, but yep. That figures. Pay the car off and boom.

time to trade for grand highlander.

Looks pretty simple to fix. Maybe couple hundred bucks.

Not a couple hundred bucks. That MIGHT be able to be PDR'ed by a super great PDR tech, for $1,200 or so. Then there is the mirror, thats another $1,000. Otherwise it needs to be painted and blended and you're looking at $2,500-$3000. The issue with PDR is its right on the edge and its impacted the inside of the hinge.

I would try and find a great PDR tech first...my guy could do it but unfortunately he is on the other side of the country. I would be happy to ask him for a referral out there if you would like @JDR76 , he's one of the most well known PDR techs in the country...

take it from someone who used to work in car insurance, make ANY effort possible to avoid going through insurance unless there's absolutely no way around it... sadly there's no reward for honesty and these underwriters will use any info they can to justify a premium increase, even if it's not your fault at all

the exception would be if the car was parked on the street and a tree branch (or something) falls and breaks a window, most policies don't have a deductible for glass losses

FWIW I've had several, several claims (none more than $7500 in damage or so) and my rates haven't increased.

It should be noted, however, that these were single car fender benders and I didn't damage any property or hurt anyone.

Now I have to file a boat claim, part of my cavitation plate was hit by something. On a damn boat with only 40 hours on it.

Yeah, keep dreaming. Haha

Couple hundred bucks might cover just the labor to install the mirror.

Labor prices have gone insane.

I would just pay $500 deductible and let Toyota fix it. It sucks when this happens. His mind must be on something else at the moment. I rushed out the garage once because I was running late and boom, hit the garage side with my driver's mirror. It's still not as bad as getting road damage on day one from a dealership.

Random: I decided to buy a ceramic spray and use it on our SUV (QX80) last weekend. Local detail shop recommended an iron remover as well (use that before ceramic, rinse off, dry). All in about $55 in product and just over an hour of my time. I am absolutely blown away by the results. Truck looks great and even after a 700 mile road trip and being parked outside for 4 days straight, it still looked almost spotless. Just ran it through car wash and couldn't believe how little water there was to wipe off. Amazing.

Ceramic coatings and spray products are amazing...

What spray ceramic product did you use?
