Got both the cars cleaned up today. Back to the carwash lol. Although now that it’s clayed and decontaminated and re sealed it’s amazing how much cleaner it stays.

Sure, it's just.... isn't it @BayeauxLex though that tows his 5.7 Tundra near capacity going 85MPH, has basically never touched his truck repair wise or maintenance wise and it has 250k hard HARD miles on it? Kiss that kind of stuff goodbyyyyeee forever.

We're all gonna see, I can't predict the future.... but it is just physics. And heat. If this were the ideal way to make power we would have started to do this lonnnnnnng ago.

Zero surprise here. That engine is nothing but a disappointment if you consider they fact they had 10 years to steal the Germans homework and not screw or up like the first Gen early 2000s turbo engines.

This is giving me the same vibe as the 2.7TT but without the aftermarket having come up with solutions to the problem.

Wowwww. That car needs to be restored. The red ones like that were almost looked at as exotics back then. We both waved, he was an older AA gentleman…. I hope I catch him sometime out.

Cars as a whole did, back in 1999-2004 and there were a lot of problems just like this but over 10-15 years they were resolved and you have engines like the 4.0TT, 4.4, and all flavors of Mercedes TTV8s now as well as many V6 hot-V or inline TT engines that all have reliability so high it's easy to see 200k+ examples.

Toyota is just late to the party, look at the issues their V6 has vs the BMW Supra. It's no contest

The last Mercedes V8 I’d count on for reliability and durability would be the M113.

The cars you speak of were all high end cars, just FWIW.

But for example, you could still have fun back then. You could get an Impala SS with the 5.3L small block from the trucks back then that was just silly in a FWD application, but I’ll be damned if they didn’t say they didn’t have fun with it roasting the tires and flying down the 1/4.

Unheard of now.

You can get a Kia K5 with an overpowered 4 cyl that does that, same end result and less transmission explosions lol

Ford has been getting along just fine with a TTV6 in a truck for going on 15 years now.

The early ones had issues with stuff like this though, but they just kept improving it over time vs waiting way too long to even try like Toyota.

However you are right, it's possible but the delay in changing over is going to cost Toyota reputation

I don’t think it’s the same thing.

That Chevy 5.3 is a verrrrry good engine. Not some Cracker Jack engine feeding off boost and software. That was a “why the hell not” car. Hell of a sleeper.

This is just in general but we talk about downsized engines etc. And they do go fast and can post great numbers. But what about living with the sound and feel of a 4cylinder every second you’re in your car? Living with that 5.3 was quite pleasant and sounded great.

I just couldn’t imagine my SL with a 4 cylinder like it has now.

Its not a sleeper at all, the engine is good sure it the transmission grenades so often that doesn't matter as the car ends up not moving. End result is a worse car and both are fail wheel drive so I have no real interest in either lol!

The only FWD car I own and really foresee keeping is my Jetta because it has the same TQ output as your M113 and doesn't sound like a normal 4 cyl. Has an overwhelming amount of turbo noise instead and that's pleasant to hear. Plus it's manual so entertaining to drive....

I would never buy a fwd LS car since I would be left with a slow car that isn't manual, folds like a tin can in crash and has no endearing features or experience. I would buy a older corvette instead and really experience the LS engine as intended
