Today's Wizard video got me thinking. Was the 06-09 era "Peak Lexus"? The controversial spindle grille hadn't happened yet. The IS,GS,LS,GX and LX were all kicking ***. Just seemed like Lexus was firing on all cylinders at this time.

i'm saying 99-09 since that would include my car lol, but also the 1st gen IS (arguably the coolest one) as well as the 2nd gen GS and final years of the original SC before it became uglier... not to mention that's when the LFA was in its initial development
and if doug demuro (also known as cuck demuro) were here he'd be most excited about the launch of the RX at that time too lol

Not a chance. That first generation GX, and other late 2000s Lexus had catastrophic dashboard cracking issues. My 3GS Was spared, but it has some annoying rattles..

Actually Lexus cars took a downturn starting in 2006. The 3GS came out in 2006 and there were reliability and quality issues there, the LS460 had a rough start in 2007. I think 98-2005 is really the peak time for Lexus.
So I went by and drove some 7 Series. I can cross the 760 off the list. The powertrain isn't as refined as the S Class, and while it rides great it doesn't go down the road as solidly at highway speeds, its feels kind of nervous and twitchy. The i7 with the extra 1,000 lbs solves that issue. I really do like that car...I came away really thinking that was the direction to go in...
They had this M70 in the spec I would want (in a 60)
...then I stopped and drove an S580 again lol. Dealer in VA had one with the blue and the macchiato interior I wanted to see before I finalized my order, so I drove it. The 7 is better quality inside no doubt, but the S drives in a way that just feels "right" to me, so I feel confident thats the direction to go in. I laid the deal out on the table from the broker and told them if they could match the deal I would do it today...and they couldn't. So I guess I'm gonna order...
I'll probably take a hit for this, but I actually vastly preferred the first gen SC interior to the 2nd gen. In fact, I think I liked everything about the first gen more than the 2nd (ahem, not an SC430 fan in general terms).

That 7 series is gorgeous! Not sure I like the interior though, maybe a little too glitzy and techie for me, if only it looked more like the SC 430 interior pictured above.
You make a good point about how the L finesse designed cars ushered in a new era of quality problems. 2005 and 2006 was the last year that you could still buy most Lexus models with a timing belt.

i’m not gonna hit you for that. that’s a very nice interior too. And although I like the SC 430s interior, I think they were pretty ugly outside, especially with those garbage can lid wheels!

i guess wouldn't might be more accurate than couldn't?
if you order though, you'll get a broker deal? i figured with ordering there's little to no negotiation?
another great one but maybe a bit too much for me plus don't like the silver plastic.
Believe it or not those silver bezels were actually metal.

Right, wouldn't lol. I told them if you can get close to this I will do it tonight. No dice. Yeah the broker would have to order it. No negotiation, its basically a zero deal...might be $1,000 of profit in it. Part of the issue is there is a $5,000 loyalty rebate I don't qualify for, its for maturing leases through September. The broker is factoring it in because by the time the car comes in I will qualify.
Compared the numbers from the BMW broker, to the S580 is $38 a month more than an i7, $1,685 vs $1,647. i7 is $135,795 and the S580 is $138,910. Of course the i7 will be $300 a month cheaper to "fuel". So it really is just which one I prefer.
The other issue is disposing of my car, I want to trade out of it, the broker complicates that because I won't have direct access to the dealer and they may be out of state...

i'm totally in agreement about this too, in fact the only reason i have an overall positive opinion of the SC 430 is because it's what regina george drove lmao... and she had two fendi purses
the 1st gen sc (300/400) would have looked a lot better without that god awful park brake handle.
nah man that's part of what ties it to the MK IV Supra! a 90s sports car without a parking brake handle just isn't right... although i will concede i think it could've been integrated a bit more seamlessly lol, it does almost look like they almost forgot to include one until the last moment
