ha... does she buy cheap ones? because they're absolutely terrible. many people think all drip coffee makers are the same. they're not. the biggest difference is that cheap ones don't/can't heat the water hot enough, so the coffee tastes terrible. i've been through a bunch until i got a cuisinart. i've had 3 or 4 of those i'd guess, each lasting several years. they're awesome and still not very expensive. maybe you can get your mom one.

My dad stole a coffeemaker in medschool, still using it today nearly 40 years later. I swear to god he only thinks it tastes the best since he stole it since it's nothing special lol!

I've only had my drip brewer for 9 years, but it was probably designed 50 years ago, and the same one is still on sale today.
There is no question it will outlive me. If my son doesn't start drinking coffee at some point, I'm assuming I'll eventually bequeath it to a grandchild.
Bringing it back around to cars....At least he's planning on keeping my E90 forever.

We have an old 00’s no frills Whirlpool double door with the old school ice dispenser out the door—the easy old fashioned way with the big spinner in the ice tub. I hope it lasts another 25 years.
Mom tried to give me her newish fridge bc it’s a total POS that cost a fortune. Like 45 motors actuate to get a cube of ice. No thanks! It’s a total POS. You put cheese in the cheese drawer and it goes bad before the date, what a joke. She hates it.

The king is still my 1993 AC unit. This is year 31 and last year I gave it a full cleaning and new coil tray plus run caps as a treat.

Lol, my garage fridge (probably 1994 like yours, copyright on the info sticker is 1993) is on its third house. My kitchen is on its third fridge since we moved in. But I shouldn't be too surprised, given how much cheaper they've gotten. The Montgomery Wards price tag is still on it: $1099, or $2340 in today's money. But the equivalent current refrigerator is only $738.
Anyway, back to cars.......it would be a pretty difficult argument that older cars in general were more reliable than newer ones. Easier to work on? yeah. But getting to 100k without several pretty major repairs was an accomplishment, now it's a pretty fair expectation. And they certainly don't cost 70% less (after adjusting for inflation) than they did 30 years ago.

In my family we’ve had really good luck GE and Whirlpool appliances. My grandmother has a 1974 avocado green GE refrigerator that still works great!

My rental house has a 2008 Whirlpool side by side fridge with the ice dispenser in the door and I love it. It’s way better quality than my mom’s huge 2011 Samsung refrigerator which spits ice shards and cubes all over the floor and into the recepticle AFTER you’ve stopped requesting ice. It did that when it was new and has gotten worse with age.

I do think HVACs are better as long as you go no-frills and avoid the fancy Eco crap. You want one fan speed only, non zoned system. We have two brand new old school style Tranes outside that I feel like will last 40 years. House is an icebox.
Back to cars, I feel Tranes are Toyotas in the car world.
