It may not have had optimum performance but using a lower octane seemed to have negligible difference for him. Similar to what AJ is experiencing.

If I ever have any engine trouble or it blows, I'll report it.

There are people who have LXs with 300k that have never used a drop of premium.
I don't think anyone's suggesting your engine is going to fail (unless your knock sensor fails, then it becomes a distinct possibility). Just that you aren't getting the designed performance out of it, because said knock sensor is retarding timing to ensure that it doesn't fail.

But agreed, moving on.

I won’t accept even a negligible difference. I want all the performance I paid for. If I didn’t want that performance I would have bought a cheaper car that didn’t offer it and only required regular.

To me what I don’t get is how AJT can say “I don’t care about fuel cost” and how he can denounce any technology that is designed to save fuel, yet he uses a cheaper fuel than specified by the manufacturer of his vehicle to save fuel cost. But, I don’t have to understand.

Ive told this story before. I have an agent who works for me who has a Range Rover and a 911. She runs regular in the Range Rover, and was pissed that her 911 wouldn’t run on regular. She also was pissed the rear tires on her 911 were too wide to fit in the track of the automatic car wash. She uses the crappiest off brand gas station in town and was pissed that they only have 91 (I’ve never even seen 91 here) and the 911 requires 93 so she has to use a little pricier off brand station. Same thing “it runs fine on regular” I just don’t understand paying $250,000 for cars (she paid cash) and then putting crappy and the wrong octane fuel in them, put Chinese tires on the rears of the 911. Never washes them. I don’t get it.

I wouldn't either. I only use Shell 93.

Using 87 is an acceptable risk to him. He clearly views the LX engine as tougher and more robust than a delicate German engine.

Probably drives on Summer tires in January and doesn't change the oil either? People like her make good content for YouTube mechanics.

I wouldn’t find that strange if he weren’t so adamant other places that the cost of fuel doesn’t matter.

I've never considered the fact that fat tires wouldn't be able to fit in the automated car wash tracks. Giant lifted 4x4s sure, but not a 911.

Granted, if I had a 911 it would never see an automated car wash but that's besides the point

I consider Shell 93 to be the best. Just a personal preference. Sunoco and Exxon 93 are totally fine too.

For example, I won't fill up at a place called "Donny's Discount Gas" lol.

I fill up at costco 90% of the time. Only exception is when I'm on the road and there isn't a Costco to stop at.

Shell has the best detergents, I primarily use Shell but any top tier fuel in a pinch.

Jill, I had to revise my post. I think I have seen 94 around here but it's been a while. Is 94 available in Ontario?

There was a Sunoco not far from me that used to offer 100 Octane Race Gas. It had a checkered flag logo on the pump. I'm assuming people would fill up before heading down to Cecil County Dragway.

It looked like this but it was def 100 not 110.

Out here we only get 91 due to the elevation. No 93 or 94.

that's rich. why does anyone (including you) care about what anyone thinks/says/writes?

I put the fuel in a car that the engineers say it needs for best performance. Full stop.
i agree with you (not that you care ).

that’s why I replace crappy OEM tires with good tires, etc.
so the new hankooks are coming off?

I run on fumes to avoid filling up on a day that’s not Tuesday because Shell has 20c off premium. That saves me $2-4 a tank lol.
a new fuel pump on an s-class will be $$ though so i don't get that either.

hey most people are not entirely consistent. but yeah, posting a lot about not careing about gas costs then caring to put 87 in a car that the manufacturer recommends 91 doesn't make any sense to me either.

but then trying to save money on gas at costco on a $150K (2k lease) car doesn't make any sense to me either.

but you do you as you said!

me buying an lc500 didn't make any sense and i knew that and laugh about it but it's nice to have something frivolous now and then!

wow, agent sounds very dumb / ignorant. i mean yeah, why bother getting those special cars and treat them like s-h-!-t.
