Default Vehicles that buyers overpaid for in 2023.

Open your wallets...here's an interesting video of 9 vehicles that many buyers typically paid well over list for during the last year. It is interesting that most of them come from luxury or sport-oriented brands.

His quotes are interesting. He states the RX350h is 49k but people are paying 59k. Around here that is what most of the MSRP's are as there are no base RX hybrids on the lots. I believe he's quoting from other sources that were comparing base sticker price vs. what the vehicles were actually going for.

I agree...you can't cover every source or every possible transaction-combination in one relatively short video. But it gives a rough general idea of the vehicles that dealerships have been able to gouge on and get inflated prices for.

A lot of hot air and hype with this guy. He's hard to watch. Basically, those who want the latest and greatest first have always overpaid. This has taken place for over 80 years. Nothing new. If one can afford what they want, it's their choice to get it. No one was forced to buy any of the models he listed.

I don't think you quite get what he was saying. True, no one is forced to get any certain vehicle, but some vehicles appeal strongly to certain people. Look at this very forum, for example.....Car Chat. Although it is primarily a Lexus forum, a lot of members have had (or still own) BMW 3-series.

People were paying big ADM's for Toyotas during the car shortage too, as reported here on CL.

I've never wanted a car bad enough to pay an ADM, yet... Lol

I have not watched the video, but if this is indeed the way it's sourced than I agree it's basically useless. By that metric, I got gouged because I paid $20k "over sticker" for my M3. But my dealer only sells at MSRP, and that's what I paid. It's just that 14 extra-cost options plus destination added exactly $20k to the base MSRP.

BMW must have the widest options range of any other manufacturer. LOL. When we were shopping for a 330i last year, the absolute bare bones "base" model started at $Cdn. 56K. and the top end with every option you can think of settled in around $85K. Took forever to understand all the options. And all this for a 330i. Then, if you want to go a 340, that's another set of parameters, and then, if you want to go to M3, etc. etc. Quite the experience showing for a bimmer! LOL. But fun nonetheless (at least for me, not so much for the wife).

Porsche would like a word. The 911 Carrera starts at $114k, and a kitted out 911 S/T rings up at $375k, before ADM and without any of the "bespoke" options (I couldn't get the configurator to add them correctly). Even that base at $114k, you can option up to over $200k if you really want to.

In my case, just two of my options make up about half of the incremental cost. Individual paint at $4500, and the exterior Carbon Fiber package at $4700.

And for an M3, it makes all the sense to go all out and option it out, as opposed to an 330i or 340. The M3 (and the M5) are beasts, iconic cars with long history and following. They are the ones that come to mind when you think about who's on top of the BMW food chain. Funny, I don't hold the M4/M8 in the same category. Not sure why, maybe just not the legacy of the other 2.
