I'm glad! The actual OE on the side wall is no joke, Ling Long tire INC......
Its getting Pirellis, I'm thinking I want the 80k mile warrant "eco focused" version they offer for all season use. Reviews claim they are quiet and don't have much issues

The very best! I think the saying goes "if crosswind blow you go off road" for this fine model of tire excellence lol!
Im getting these for it, should be adequate for it I hope. I'm not targeting handling etc, just low cost of operation as that's my "performance" goal.

So yeah, also on sale right now so it works out well. I usually try and pick the right tire for a given job and this cars job is MPG

Great news, the dead miss on cyl 3 was simply a fuel air lock issue. I did a bleed of everything and it's all fine again, now I will be proceeding to repair the glow plug harness and lift needle sensor.......once running totally correctly it will be driven to the shop so I can get all it's new parts installed on the lift for my sanity vs working on it at home.

Quick fix, but it worked
Glows and lift sensor are working again
Easy enough
Got the small areas cleaned finally, ended up also doing a quick paint correction with some minor paint pen work and then a compound/sealant pass.
Continued on with my repairs and found impending death in the oil filter....
Well that's not good.
Some idiot used a lot of RTV and the pickup was 1/3 blocked......I was pulling the pan at this point to inspect a suspected dead rod bearing due to a noise under load. Also at this point I STILL have a cyl 3 miss even though I fixed the lift sensor and confirmed fuel flow
Well that's bad. The freaking crank reluctor wheel is broken, at this point I was starting to realize I was dealing with a serious issue. I found a larger section of metal in the pan of about 7/8 inch by 1/4 inch with no clear indication of origin
Well this is not great, upper shells are worn to the 2nd layer and lowers are also shot. Not to the point of rod knock like I had hoped it to be but on the plus side the crank journals are perfect.
Once I saw the bearings were not the source of the issue I decided to pull the valve cover and it was at this point I realized there was massive damage.
Can lobe dead/mostly dead
The collection of bits, turns out it was a valve lifter
And the actual issue at last. Head is unrepairable, the infuriating part is the cam journals are all perfect as are the cam surfaces so it's not even an oiling failure. The lifter just apparently died. Thankfully it didn't drop the valve so I think it will be an easier fix, I'm sourcing a replacement head now and it should be good to go once that's swapped out.

Do you suspect the owner knew something was off by the way the car was running and that's why it was put up for sale?
You really know your stuff friend, I'll give you that.
Those tear down pics look very intimidating to me, I'd never attempt something like that. Lol
For sure the car would never run again. Lol

My main concern now is that all 4 rods are slightly bent, the beating wear is all biased to one half of the upper shells and that's normally warning that the rods have been tweaked. When the head is off I'll need to measure projection and uniformity, with my luck they are all bent lol!
That being the case it will end up being a full build in the 250hp/450tq range

I found a full dropout with nothing harness/hoses cut anywhere locally for $700, has 132k miles and is fully complete. I'll be putting this in the car and using my original block to build a mean little engine!
