It's just a rental! Or is it?
Hi fine members,
Inspired by another thread I thought I'd put up a thread with a poll.
When renting a car, how do you treat it?
I mostly try to return it in a way that doesn't cost me a monetary penalty.
If it wasn't for that, I would probably smoke my cigars in it and return it without gas.
And, maybe flog the throttle and be hard on it. Lol
I may be exaggerating a little bit because I like to think about the next person that has to use it too so I probably wouldn't leave a bait bucket in the trunk(story for another day ) but I'd probably lean towards the minimum that my rental agreement requires.
How about you?

I will say, I tend to treat Turo cars a little more carefully than those from major rental car chains. However, in any case, I treat the car as nicely as I can. I don't abuse it or make a mess of the inside. Basically, I don't want to try my luck with it, cause I probably need it to get me where I need to go if I paid the money for it.

This is exactly how I feel. Like I said in the conversation that inspired this thread I don't need to be contractually obligated to treat other people's property the way it is supposed to be treated. I maintain my leased cars, I put the proper fuel in rental cars, if they tell me not to put pets in a rental car, I don't put pets in the rental car, etc.

I treat it like my own, and often return it better than I received it.
But if I'm renting a fun car (and I've rented plenty), it will be driven HARD, just like I drive my own fun cars. Driven hard, but with care.
And I've rented a bunch of fun cars, including an F90 M5, a C63s coupe, an AMG GT Convertible, a 911 Convertible MANUAL and a Ferrari 458.
All returned better than I received it (yes, I'll actually wash them), but they all were driven aggressively (especially any time spent on mountain, canyon or back roads).
I returned the 458 in such good condition, they forgave the fact that I drove 175 miles over my limit. I love Turo.

I sometimes wish we had a "Like Button" in car chat cuz I'd be hitting it a lot.

i'll never go out of my way to be abusive to a rental car but there are cases where i'll definitely care less what happens vs being extra attentive
if we're talking about someone's nice car they're renting out on turo then yea i'll be very respectful, but just some RAV4 through avis then who cares... obviously any kind of physical damage will be avoided but i'm not gonna be extra gentle during the first few minutes after a cold start like i would with one of my cars

Spec fuel, check everything underhood and tires, allow full oil temp before pushing. Same as anything else.......

Do I park in ding free spots in a rental car? No. But I use the right gas and don’t abuse it.

Rental companies, cheapest gas I can find. No warm up. If it’s quick, it’s getting launched!!
Turo rental, I will put top tier gas and whichever octane it calls for. I will even hand wash it. I will park further out as I would in my personal vehicle.
I only warm up boosted vehicles. Everything else gets warmed up as I’m driving it.

I treat all vehicles the same. I put in whatever gas I’m supposed to and don’t change my driving style. As far as warming up cars go, I’ve never done that. I just get in and drive.
