Quirk i just learned about today.

2023 MDX. When filling up the tires and the car is on, the hazard lights will blink rapidly for 1-2 seconds when the tire hit's it's 35mpg ideal air pressure. I had no clue what was occurring at first, lol. Pretty nifty alert.

- On two separate occasions I've tried to open my gas tank (just press on the door, there is no internal button or switch) and it won't open. Today I thought it was broken and I pushed it probably 20 times. I went to open the car and when the doors unlocked, the gas tank popped open. So it occurred to me that the gas tank has a "lock" just like the doors and it can't be opened when the truck is locked. Never had a car like that. This makes sense to me though.
- I don't think I can unlock all of the doors by touching the button on the passenger door handle - it only unlocks the passenger door. Conversely, the driver door button will unlock all of the doors if I tap it twice. I'm going to ask Infiniti if this can be customized. This is an annoying quirk.
- The truck doesn't auto unlock all of the doors when you put it in park. Only when you turn the truck off. I've searched online and doesn't seem like this can be changed, but I'm going to ask Infiniti. I find this annoying as well.
I noticed these door locking quirks too in the QX80 I rented. Strangely, the passenger can't open the door from the inside when the doors are locked...the driver has to open their door or they have to press the unlock button. don't like that at all. You can however unlock all doors by pushing the button on the drivers door twice, never tried the passenger door.

All the cars I have had with a push down to open gas flap lock it when the doors are locked. Oddly in our new 23 Pacifica they have done away with that kind of fuel flap entirely and have a button on the drivers door, the 20 and the 17s we had all had press to open flaps.

Now that you're becoming accustomed to HID/LED in your BMW you will dislike the halogens more and more.

yes i remember this! i first noticed after taking the 2016 MDX on the beach, the hazard lights would blink a few times every several PSI when airing back up

i wish i knew exactly what it was signifying, but it seems like a way of helping you keep track of inflation progress without being in the car

My car occasionally emits a mysterious, melodious hum when the air conditioning is turned on.

I have another quirk. I think this is common to all Lexus cars with the AA80E transmission (namely, LS 460, IS F, RC F, GS F, and IS 500). The transmission gear-shifting is somewhat "clunky" when the car is cold and is sometimes accompanied by audible "thud" sounds and rev flare in the first few gears. However, after I've driven the car a couple of miles, it sorts itself out and is nice and smooth. I've heard this is normal, expected behavior on these, but I could swear something was wrong until I learned that this is normal.

It's an effect of the control scheme used with the ravigneaux gearset and how pressures are controlled. I always get a slight 1-2 bump for the first shift

Ok, here's one.

On my RX330 it has no defrost only mode.

Only windshield defrost mode available is windshield/floor split.

Weird

Every other car I've owned I could put max to windshield only for fast defrost.

Only use defrost when traveling up north on holiday, but still.

It's the "Front" defrost button on the right side of the center stack:

Right above the "Rear and Mirror" defrost button. We had a 2RX for 12 years (ours was a 2007 RX350), and the defrost worked just fine.

Yup, that button runs only the defroster.

Signatures not working?

2004 LS430
2002 SL500
2014 LX570

Yes, all of those cars are workhorses.... (SL500 is on a W124 platform--think overseas taxis)

It's not hard to keep an old car running well though.

It does require money and a lot of reconditioning though…….. my car was made in 2010 and there’s so many things on it that are deteriorated and need reconditioning.

Mine don’t cost me a penny other than oil changes. I replaced motor mounts in my Benz, but that’s a wear item.

Just take care of (quality) cars and they’ll last virtually forever. I have no plans ever to sell anything I have.
