Default What quirks does your car have?

I've discovered a couple of quirks on our QX80. Strangely, they all relate somehow to locking and unlocking the vehicle.
- On two separate occasions I've tried to open my gas tank (just press on the door, there is no internal button or switch) and it won't open. Today I thought it was broken and I pushed it probably 20 times. I went to open the car and when the doors unlocked, the gas tank popped open. So it occurred to me that the gas tank has a "lock" just like the doors and it can't be opened when the truck is locked. Never had a car like that. This makes sense to me though.
- I don't think I can unlock all of the doors by touching the button on the passenger door handle - it only unlocks the passenger door. Conversely, the driver door button will unlock all of the doors if I tap it twice. I'm going to ask Infiniti if this can be customized. This is an annoying quirk.
- The truck doesn't auto unlock all of the doors when you put it in park. Only when you turn the truck off. I've searched online and doesn't seem like this can be changed, but I'm going to ask Infiniti. I find this annoying as well.

When I press the gas pedal too much the MPG suffers drastically; so weird!

My GX is moody. Somedays it coddles me in total ride comfort, other days it beats me up going over a leaf.

were you typing that with doug demuro holding you at gunpoint lmao... i have a few worth mentioning

LS 400:

- electric seatbelt and headrest height adjustment, don't see that too often and especially in the 90s must've been pretty noteworthy
- a separate 3rd sun visor just behind the rear view mirror
- wipers automatically become intermittent when you come to a stop, and start going again at normal speed as soon as you start driving again
- after using the washer fluid the wipers will do a separate extra sweep moments after to take care of any extra runoff
- auto air recirc mode, if excess pollution is detected the car can automatically switch to recirc and not take in any more outside air
- exterior side mirrors auto tilt down in reverse to help see the curb
- in dash CD changer that uses removable magazines, which i think is better than having to 1 by 1 eject every disc manually lol
- holding the key unlock button will lower all the windows and open the moonroof

E-class:

- airmatic, the car will automatically lower itself at high speeds for extra stability and reduced drag
- 'tunnel mode', press and hold the recirc button and all windows will close, press and hold the button again and they open back to where they were
- the seat heating and ventilation can be used at the same time lol
- service position on the hood, there's two tabs that need to be pulled back and the hood can be opened to nearly 90° vertical
- dynamic seats with auto inflating side bolsters
- can also lower windows with key unlock button
- the rear headrests can be dropped simultaneously with a button on the dash, quite funny if someone's asleep in the backseat
- 'rest' button on climate control to keep blowing warm air into the car even with it off
- the CD changer is 'hidden' and is operated by an unmarked button below the hazard light button
- depending on the which center console is equipped, potentially the most over-engineered cupholder ever lol

the W211 is sort of like this, actually the filler cap door doesn't even have any opening mechanism whatsoever, you just push on the front of it and it swings open almost like one of those old school vent windows

but yea when you lock the car the filler cap door locks as well... on later mercedes though there's an actual latching mechanism like you described where you push on the back of it and you get the little click when it releases

My 911 uses no coolant. My S2000's fuel release is hidden behind the driver's side door.

I had a 96 LS400 with most/all of these - but I didn't know about things like air recirc detecting excess pollution. The first 3 are things I vividly remember about the LS.

there's a simple explanation for why you didn't know, that was added in 1998 lol

previous years don't have the auto option on the recirc button

My car inexplicably can play DVDs. It only works while the car is in Park.

Also the engine intake air box is really finnicky. It is tough to get it lined up perfectly where it seals all the way... ask me how I know.

Not sure the extra wipe after washer fluid is a quirk. Seems every vehicle I've owned has had that.

always impressed with this little quirk! my 2007 is250 has it and surprised that my other much-newer cars don't! might be a luxury, up-market thing? my newer cars are just Toyotas.

i almost never see this in cars lol that's the only reason i bothered mentioning it... my benz doesn't do this and i'm pretty sure my parents' new GLE doesn't either

We talking quirks as in interesting design choices or minor errors specific to our actual cars?

My 4.0 sometimes decides the 360* cam won't be working, needs to be recycled by hitting the park mode button twice....also eats a little oil but that's expected of a turbo car. One time it ate 1.2 quarts of coolant and I never figured out where it went off to, just disappeared essentially. Drivers door is sagging about 1.7mm relative to the drivers rear door resulting in felt drag of the 3rd door seal and occasional soft close failure to cycle, I've seen a lot of the facelift D4s with this problem.

The LS460 sometimes has issue with the smog sensor not going to auto re circulation when it normally would/does....and the EPB is sometimes loud/releases with a "pop" but so far has never actually had an issue.

The W12 has brake squeak for the first 1/2 mile as is typical with that class of brake system, the auto bolsters in the seats sometimes overreact to minor turns but I'm starting to think it's because the car is not sure if I'm going to leisurely coast or snap turn in at over 40. The only thing it actually has that I would class as an issue is the leftmost hood latch sensor like/requires you to close the hood hard. I've twice now had it falsely report the hood is open when I close via setting it down and pushing. It needs a bit of a slam, still 2 out of all the times isn't bad since it's opened every time I'm back home and every fuel stop.

Jeep has a long list.......

Truck doesn't like to start after sitting a while unless you cycle the key 5 times to allow the fuel system to fully prime up since the return side tends to drain. Cranking is difficult as well due to massively increased compression ratio, 450lb valve springs, relocated battery, and colt drop. When started it sprays raw fuel for a little while, whole truck also rotates along its length an inch or so if you blip the throttle form a near 7L engine going from 850-4500 rpm in an about a second.

Sequoia has many issues and has by far the lowest miles, brake squeak that is constant that for some reason doesn't go away with doubled M clips/extra cleaning+lube/any brand of brakes, laser cruise that freaking sucks plus doesn't let you go to normal type unless you are stopped at a fresh start/key on, like 4 interior buzzes and one random rattle, random oil seep on the timing cover I'm pretending doesn't exist, air suspension DOESN'T FREAKING ADJUST CONSISTENTLY, parking brake has fallen out of adjustment 3 times in 58500 miles.

I don't know what the newest car will have yet but so far it seems okay?

Could be an automaker specific thing, maybe Benz doesn't do it. I'll have to see if my BMW does it on the way home from work today.

I know my F-150 does it and I'm pretty sure my Fusion did as well.

Open for interpretation. I initially was thinking interesting design choices, but whatever!
