Not surprisingly, Lexus, Toyota, and Buick take the top three spots in the latest 2024 J.D. Power Vehicle Survey....with Chevrolet a surprisingly good fourth place. Mini has also been doing quite well lately, in spite of a long previous history of poor showings. Lincoln had been doing well for a short time, but dropped quite a bit this year. Why Kia did substantially better than Hyundai and Genesis is an interesting question....both Kia and Hyundai use basically the same platforms, drivetrains, and chassis.

"problems per 100 vehicles" is the measure.
so (best) lexus at 135 has 1.35 problems per vehicle.
and (worst) chrysler at 310 has 3.1 problems per vehicle.

the difference is not as big as the chart would make it seem.

with new TX and GX, we'll see if Lexus can keep it going.

Another interesting question is why Chrysler is in last place. They have only two U.S.-market vehicles, with the 300 essentially being the same vehicle mechanically as the Dodge Charger, which scores far higher. True, the Pacificas have had problems...perhaps the fact that they now substantially outsell the 300 could be a factor. Jeeps, once notoriously unreliable, have also substantially improved recently with Dodge.

It also strongly depends on how picky the owners are, some people miss issues or don't consider them to be actual problems worth mentioning.

That also begs the question about the relatively wide gap between Chevy and GMC products, considering that they are mechanically similar...and, in some ways, almost identical.

To be fair 2.5times more average problems per vehicle is not insignificant.

It's the standards of the buyer.....chevys cater to lower end buyers than GMC. People who buy more expensive and refined cars are WAY more picky, stuff that would never be noticed by mainstream buys will and do cause high end buyers to trade/ditch cars. Something as inconsequential as a faint intermittent wind noise at only 87-102 mph, the soft close sometimes making a different tone, the fuel pump prime sometimes being louder etc etc are all things that high end buyers are driven crazy by but mainstreamers never even notice.

You say Chrysler is bad. But they are, at least, on the chart. Alfa-Romeo is not even on the chart anymore.

The way people complain maybe? GMC is pretty high end. For example, they need a 4/50 B2B warranty, badly. 3/36 ain't cutting it with $99k Denalis. They need to Lexify themselves a little with the service image and experience.

I have no reason to believe a comparable Chevrolet High Country Tahoe would be any more or less reliable than the Denali.

I really am impressed, GM haters should take a pause here. Right behind Lexus and Toyota is impressive.

Alfa probably doesn't sell enough vehicles in the U.S. (or get enough questionnaires from owners) to have a consistent data-base for reliability. It is considered a niche-brand here.

I feel like it depends on people's expectations. For example, I have a Sienna, built in the US with a 4cyl hybrid. I expected and accepted rattles and the engine to be loud when compared to my made in Japan GX. I expected and accepted the lowered build quality of the US made Toyota products. Even the ES I had from 2008 that was made in Canada had rattles and tons of road noise. So my expectations are set and know what I'm getting. So long story short, I wouldnt even bother answering a survey about reliability or put it down as an issue even if I do fill out a survey.
