Lexus ranks below BMW for reliability

You bought the peak era IMO, I like that range of BMWs the best and are the only ones I would/did consider owning. I would have gotten an S63 or V12 though so ultimately I backed out of fear (have done too many valve seals on the V8s) and because the 7 doesn't ride as well nor comes as well equipped/fit as tightly as the other stuff I was looking at.

I have a number of friends who own or owned 3rd gen Tacomas, all of which spent more time in the mechanic's bay than my 2015 F-150 has, and it's not even close.
Toyota's reliability isn't what it was 15-30 years ago. Is it still better than many others? Yes. Can you assume you'll never have an issue? Not anymore.

I’m surprised it’s not worse.

I think you have the updated drivetrain with the mild hybrid, I assume this means they think start/stop works better, thus why they removed the button. But I agree with you, Sport Individual mode is the way to drive these things anyway.

While the stop/start is smoother - it’s terribly annoying, especially when I parallel park or back in to my driveway. It’s idiotic and really doubt that it helps save any gas.

It really depends on how picky the owner is and what kinds of problems there are. Someone like me where rattles would drive me up the wall I would consider that a problem and keep bringing it back to the dealer. There are people that just dont care and wouldnt consider that a problem. It is fair to say that Toyota and Lexus products made in Japan are better made than anything in the US or Canada and leagues better than anything from Mexico. I believe the same goes for the Germans. The top rated Lexus products like the GX and 4Runners are made in Japan.

Not worth it. It is so annoying and cumbersome.
I can't believe.certain cars have had this and it's undefeatable.
If it were refined and/or engineered well and not annoying and saved 20%, then we can talk.

100% agreed! Also, when I was growing up, my dad always said to me that starting the car wasn't good for it, so when these systems started coming out, they really messed with my OCD lol.

When you go to start it up it starts just like a normal truck should and even shakes from the huge V8, just a bonus.
But then it's like there's a different setup for the start stop. It fires up instantly, not the same thing as when you start it at first when you leave.
I wonder what that's about. It's easily defeatable with a glorious physical button. It is seamless sometimes, but overall no.

The interesting thing is I haven't experienced auto start/stop actually kicking in that much. Maybe it's a season/temp thing, but most of the time it stays running at stop lights, no matter whether or not my climate controls are on or any other discernable criteria from the manual. I'm not getting any lights so I don't think it's broken, but it's possible my battery, if it's the original, isn't healthy enough for it to function.
I'm not complaining though.
