I saw this last night as well. I showed my wife, and she just shook her head.
I feel like this is one of those topics Lexus salespeople should go over with buyers.

Wait. What's the point of the manual releases if you went to digital control? That sounds like you just have both for no reason now?

There's potential here to also allow for electronically opening the doors as well, like we've seen in Teslas or BMW 7-series, etc. Maybe it's not fully realized here in the NX...

The point is to prevent accidentally opening the doors when it is unsafe to do so, such as when there is an oncoming vehicle or cyclist.

Because it allows touch to unlock? Is that a trick question or are you being inane? This unlike fobs and proxy keys changes NOTHING on how a door is opened or closed and now has extra cost and weight for no reason, you still interact with the door the same way unlike something like the new 7 or a RR that have powered doors you don't touch. This is just redundant. The emergency system SHOULD be like a physical keyhole is on anything else, heck use the physical key to stab a small slot somewhere on the inside to act as the release system but don't waste the entire point of an electric system by just laying it on top of a normal set of latches.

And I still stand by what I said in the thread that detailed that, if you are too idiotic to look before you open a door then you shouldn't be driving. On the teslas at least that lets them cut even more costs and make the cars even cheaper, on this is makes no sense if there is still that extensive of a backup physical system vs a true emergency door popper setup.
And the ironic thing is - maybe people who don't understand their door handles shouldn't be driving.

Touch to OPEN = bad! unnecessary! waste of $$!
Champion tech you like; rail on tech you don't--then call others names. Classy.
