These numbers...the TX PHEV isn't out yet...how can it have market share?

That's also my question. I think it would make more sense to revisit this topic a year from now, so we have a good look at the trend.

My gut tells me the market for a PHEV TX isn't that big, I don't really know of that many PHEV's left in that market segment. I know BMW used to have a X5 PHEV, but I think its been dropped, and Marc may have had a PHEV too, but I think that was dropped as well.

The market for the TX PHEV will be signifiant. Likely the best selling PHEV at that price point.

Agreed. For the first few years, the only thing that will limit its market share is production volume.

The X5 and GLE PHEV models were just revamped and are very much available.

Right now it shows 80 sold.

Pretty sure Toyota will only allocate these PHEVs to areas with serious subsidies and high income.

if you look at the tab for availability such states as OK and KY have it. Only 24 available nationwide though

Oh shoot, maybe it was when they went to the G chassis on the X5, they didn't have the PHEV model right away. Anyways, I stand corrected.

As for Merc, I thought they had abandoned it when they went with the strategy of having separate EV and ICE lines, again I stand corrected.

With that said, I still don't know how big of a segment this will be, but only time will tell. And this is based only on my very anecdotal evidence from my own neighborhood, where it seems my neighbors either own the ICE version of big SUVs like a GLS/GLE or they own something like the EQS. But hey what do I know.

The pricing of it certainly won't help. The PHEV tends to be the most expensive in the lineup, and by significant amounts.

The RX PHEV is almost $20k more than the base hybrid RX 350h, mostly due to the fact the only trim available is the luxury one, and actually more expensive than most of the TX and GX models, which are bigger vehicles.

Saying that, I think the ability to use EV for most days while still having the range freedom is a big plus and will continue to draw people.

The fact that in 2023, Toyota sold in the USA 54k plug ins (compared to >600k HEVs), even though they only started pushing it hard in more models just that year, seems to show there is a growing market for them.
