What Top Brand Oil Are You Using In Your Engine ?

The only time oil really got my attention was on something like the V10 in the E60 M5. It used something unusual like 10W-60.

oh yea that engine runs HOT! it's part of the reason the rod bearings fail so routinely since that thick heavy oil (especially when cold) has a tough time making its way through those narrow passageways

despite the supercharger my engine luckily doesn't need some crazy oil type, the SLR mclaren though also uses a supercharged M113 but that needs 5W-50... not something you'll find in the average gas station lol

Yea I actually thought about the SC 5.5 in your E55 too when I was typing that post up.

Outside of low production/high performance special engines, analyzing which oil is best seems like overkill to me.

agreed... as long as it's being changed on time, filled to the correct level, and driven gently when cold, no "major" brand should be of any concern

i have a preference for pennzoil platinum since it's refined from natural gas and in (independent) tests i've seen it does genuinely seem to do a better job of not breaking down from excess temperature

Default Convenient BIB Lucas oil with a pour valve

Well I did get the 6 Gal BIB from Lucas , and I didn’t get bashed to bad for thinking it was a very good brand . But we know how oil threads go .
