It depends on who is requesting it. For credit, some companies may accept, others may also want W-2's, bank statements, etc.

Is this a car loan? Yes…but depending on your style of income they may want additional documentation.

The first time I financed a car, I had just graduated college and started my first real adult job a week earlier. I had one pay stub for a partial pay period. The lender required me to get a letter from my new employer stating that I was employed full-time and not seasonally.

This was 10 years ago, YMMV.
