Did I get ripped off? OD reads different than printout?
Hello,
I'm writing this for a buddy of mine who recently bought a 2012 Lexus is250.
He bought it from Michigan and it was driven to him. I think he paid $12k or similar, I'm in Virginia.
So, he asked me to take it to O'Reilly's and do a code scan on it and it said p0750, etc.
However, at the top corner of the printout it said the car has 140K miles- but the OD in the car says 72,550??
WHat gives??
If my buddy got ripped like this it's probably a felony to change the OD isn't it?
Thanks for any advice.
I'm not sure if he got it from used car dealer or private I'll ask him.

Oh man, what you're reporting doesn't sound good at all.

Welcome to CL.
Definitely sounds like it needs some investigation....could very well be a rollback.
Modern digital odometers are much more difficult to roll back than the old ones where you just hooked up a drill to the mechanical cable, but are not impossible.
In rare instances (and I've had this happen once), odometers and/or dash-screens have to be replaced for various reasons (failure, damage, theft, etc...) and the new odometer starts over at 0 mileage. But, when that happens, Federal law in the U.S. requires a sticker to be attached to the vehicle (often on the door-jamb) documenting the odometer-change at whatever mileage, so that the vehicle's true mileage can be determined.

Thanks for answering, will be there in a bit and will look on door jamb. He actually paid $14,000 and I know he said it was advertised as having 72k.
$14k is a bit much for a 146k car so I think there's some **** in the game.
It says it's a federal crime and interstate crime too.

Digital odometers are extremely easy to adjust to whatever mileage you want, or you just swap a lower mile cluster in if you are trying to scam someone.
