I came back from vacation to my report which I just viewed, nothing that surprised me at all, all of my addresses, phone numbers, credit history, all the businesses I own, all the licenses I hold, my insurance claim history and policy history, and thats it. So we know now that Lexus, Chrysler and Mercedes at least don't share any data with all the connected services enabled.

So click decline on the extremely transparently-named "Insure Connect" and this concern goes away for Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Seems simple enough.

My Ford has the exact same insurance referenced agreement, which is unchecked by default. I believe it was added in the past year during an update.

You also need to read the insurance portion carefully. It says it transmits data so that they can market you reduced cost insurance options. It doesn't say that information will be given to third parties for use in risk analysis to be used against you.

Like geko said though, if you aren't comfortable with that just click decline.

Then simply decline…

We have yet to see any evidence that Toyota is using this data in this way

Did finally get mine to work. No driving data listed, so BMW isn't selling me out. My Ford is not connected to anything so nothing to data mine there.

It did have some contact info listed for me that is definitely not me and never has been me.

Huh? I was just asking you for clarity to your comment.

And like you, I don't currently own a Toyota product.

I just don't think this is an issue for most carmakers, GM was clearly doing something shady but that doesn't mean that all carmakers have done so. I have owned Toyota products up until 2000, and the information in my report I got goes further back than that, so if Toyota had shared my information it would be on there.

If Chrysler and Mercedes don't share my information in a way that will hurt me I feel confident that Toyota won't either

I've had the Lexus app on my phone since 2017, and the Mercedes app since 2019. My LexisNexis report does not have any driving habit information on it at all, just information about what vehicles we have insured and any claims information.

I don’t think I’ll get any reduced rate offers.

I drive a 2012 IS-F. Whatever connected features it might have had went away a few years ago when the 3G cellular network was shut down.

Yes, Surveillance Capitalism is pervasive, but that doesn't mean you have to just roll over, spread your cheeks, and take it.
