GM trucks are overwhelmingly V8s, most the 5.3. Like I said, most buyers don't care if a downsized turbo is faster. Americans love their V8s, and GM seems to get that.
Like I said, this may or not be true but it sounds reasonably accurate, but the next small block coming should be around 525hp-- in top form at least.

That's Ford.

We had a Galant with 102hp!
Other than being death-trap-slow it was a decent car, I don't remember any issues with it at all. Back then the Diamante was legit, ES300 competitor.
About the topic of this thread, I have noticed that GM is starting to take the lead with truck sales and last year it was very close, I think
I think GM is doing so well with its trucks because they still offer V8s in all their trucks. Most people who buy the 5.3 just want 8 cylinders under the hood, and don't care than an Ecoboost will beat them. Truck owners especially love their V8s. 5.3 isn't as fast but it's certainly enough.

I love my Coyote. It's a fantastic engine, I'm going to keep this truck forever if I can. But the Ecoboosts are the future.

My brother had a Mirage, and it was a pretty horrible car. Leaked and burned oil at the same time. Another friend who was an enthusiast had an EVO, he told me it revved out to 7000 rpm, but he never revved it past 5K because he said he "could break it" . Now I'm no expert on Mitsubishi, but that's two strikes, one more and I'm out
One of buddies track cars. He actually has 2 Evos. This one has 450+hp to wheels and handles on rails. It revs to 7k. The other one is modded as well. I want to say 400+ to wheels but this one is built for the track.

I think what's telling about this is that the V8 Ford offers is really good. It's not like they're picking the Ecoboost because the V8 option is unreliable or slow.

You're the expert here, I don't know much about EVO'S other than what I've heard. I do know that EVO's are still highly regarded in the modding community, they were really popular in LA in the late 90's. I don't see many of them around, maybe two this year

They are overwhelmingly V8s because Chevy has not offered a competitive V6 in decades. And now they do not offer one at all. Customers cannot buy what you do not sell. As noted, the majority of F150 buyers choose one of their V6 options over the Coyote, which is a dramatically better V8 than the Chevy 5.3. If GM offered compelling V6 options like Ford does, 5.3 sales would be almost nonexistent, and it would be quickly dropped from the lineup entirely.

I disagree an Ecoboost is a better engine than the 5.3 V8. Maybe faster, but that's it. People are buying them up and I doubt many have complaints.
GM has no compelling V8? What about the 6.2 which is a Corvette engine (basically)?
GM isn't dropping V8s, there's a new one on the way, Thank God.

You really need to reread my post, because it doesn't remotely say what you think it does.
No, they don't offer a V6 at all. The ancient and pathetic 4.3 was discontinued in 2021 and replaced with a 4-cylinder.
Note, the L82 5.3 that was discontinued was replaced with the LM7 5.3.
I never said this. Here is my post which you quoted (new emphasis added):
I also never said this. Again, what you quoted (emphasis added again):
I also never said this. I said if they offered compelling V6 options (see quote above), that would cannibalize the 5.3, to the point it would eventually be discontinued. I never mentioned the 6.2 even once, or said anything about V8s in general going away.

They simply cater to a different market now....instead of the young male crowd that buys and slams/customises Eclipses and Evos, or those who slog off-road in Monteros, they now lean to those with thin wallets, low credit ratings, and are simply looking for basic transportation at a low price. And they match the excellent 10/100 and 5/60 warranty available on Hyundais/Kias.
I never was a big fan of the Eclipse. The turbo and (later) V6 versions provided some bang for the buck in terms of power-to-weight ratio, and it was reasonably priced, but its reliability and and assembly-quality was atrocious for a modern vehicle (probably because of the many different problems at the Diamond-Star plant in Normal, IL). I sampled the latest convertible version before it was dropped, and it was even less impressive.
