Except those consequences can impact all of us too.

I'm much happier knowing the guy behind me on his phone has a car that will step in and cover for his inattention.

Well those morons injure and kill other innocent people, so the "consequences" may extend to you or a family member. THAT'S the entire point.

Frankly, I think we are simply arguing over a moot point. No matter what our own personal view of the system (a few of us on Car Chat seem to be in favor of it...the majority not), it is a done deal...that's why I started the thread. Not only that, but the fact that many vehicles already have this system means that there will be only minimal change in the new car market itself....perhaps some slightly higher prices for entry level vehicles that are required to have it.

I like the idea of a car hitting the brakes for front collision avoidance.

My only fear is how far will they take it.
