$600 license and registration fees for a new car in CA?

Yours is not bad. At least 10 states charge EV owners 180+. Utah is the highest at $368.76 while Texas will hit first time owners $400 and $200 on renewals.

EV owners get screwed in some states with big registration fees because they don't buy gasoline, and, therefore, don't pay state taxes on gasoline. That is how the states make up the lost money from the gas tax.
