My friend who had the 2021 M440i convertible I reviewed last year just replaced it with a 2024 M4 Competition RWD. I didn't get a chance to drive it yet, but I'll be spending some time with it next weekend. I'll post more pics and a mini review, but here are the specs:
I look forward to driving it, putting it through its paces, and reviewing it. I also look forward to pitting it against my Polestar . He out powers me by 24 HP, but I have more torque than him (502 vs 479), so should be interesting off the line...

You will win off the line, do it from 20 and he will destroy you. The X drive version is stupidly good with a basic stage one tune
A friend of mine has one but in a dark blue color and it looks surprisingly good because I really didn’t like the M4 body style when it came out, I liked the M3 much better. I still do like it better but have come around on the M4.
As for racing him, the RWD is going to slow him down a fair amount off the line so he will lose because he will be playing catch up and you probably won’t go far enough for him to pass you. If it was AWD it would be much closer.

These things are hell quick. Another friend has the M3 Comp AWD and it hooks up pretty good. I already beat him off the line, but we did a 50 roll and I didn't do as well. With a tune I don't have a chance. But I can say with surety that he won't be able to beat my upcoming Model 3 Performance without a tune

I will be shocked if he doesn't drop the $550 on a tune though lol!

I've known him over 10 years, and he won't. 100 percent I would if I was in his shoes. I paid $1300 for the Performance Upgrade on the P2, worth every penny

It's a lot more than that. The ECU must be unlocked by Femto in Finland and the base software (BM3, MHD, etc) installed by them. That costs around $1000 plus international shipping ($300 or so) just for the unlock. Or Euro Performance Center has monthly trips where they hand-deliver a pile of customer ECUs to have them unlocked. That service plus a BM3 OTS tune (which is how I'd probably go) will run $2,400. If you want a custom tune, choose your turner and add ~$1000.
@AMIRZA786 congrats to your friend! I know he will enjoy. Aventurin Red is a fun but classy color.

I was going to post the same thing. A friend of mine has a newer M3 and had to ship his ECU overseas to Femto, that’s something many people wouldn’t want to do. It used to be much easier with pre 2021 BMW ECUs. In my 2020 M340 I had to ship my ECU to CA and even that wasn’t ideal. I’m surprised Mission Performance in CA hasn’t cracked the new ECUs.

I look forward to driving it this coming weekend. Wife will be out of town so it will be a nag free experience 🤣
Looks like $1300 for the performance upgrade on my Polestar was a bargain, delivered ota

It absolutely is, but it's also not nearly limitless like an unlock and tune is. Stage 1 (no parts required) OTS tune adds ~105hp and ~150lbft on 93 pump gas. Add a downpipe to do Stage 2, which adds (from stock, not from stage 1) ~170hp and ~210lbft on E30. Custom tuning and/or more mods can raise this ceiling significantly. There are hundreds if not thousands of these cars running ~700hp wheel with just some basic mods, and a larger number than you'd expect at over 1,000 wheel.

I really like Aventurin Red. I think it would look better with silver wheels, though. Maybe I just don't want anyone stepping on my "red with black wheels" toes, maybe not.
Is there a lot of turbo lag? I've heard mixed reviews when it comes to that aspect.
