Default Lexus to launch V8 supercar with up to 600bhp

Finally some exciting things from Lexus!

https://autos.yahoo.com/lexus-launch...050146429.html

Lexus is set to launch a new V8-engined supercar as a rival to the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT and a spiritual successor to the legendary LFA.

Parent company Toyota’s hardcore GT3 GR concept car, revealed in 2022, has now evolved into a prototype that has been spotted running at Spa-Francorchamps, and its Gazoo Racing motorsport division is expected to have it ready for top-flight competition – including the Le Mans 24 Hours– in 2026.

FIA homologation rules dictate that any GT3 racer shares its basic body design with a related road car, so a toned-down version of the GT3 GR is expected in showrooms within the next two years.

Great news! What a weird life cycle this engine had. It was happening, then cancelled and now happening again. Better late than never.

I saw clips of it driving around Spa a couple weeks ago on YouTube and some test track in Japan in Sept 2023. Sounded good to me.

Article says road version will be hybrid which I hope is not the case as it will add weight and complexity. I wonder if they will use a Dual Clutch trans.

It needs to be in the $200-250k range which is where AM Vantage is priced.

Thanks to Akio Toyoda!

I thought they were winding down production of the V8. This goes against everything they stood for.

They take the V8 out of their flagship then many years later they decide to make a supercar with one? Lol

They still offer V8 in LC, RCF and IS.

This will be very limited production like LFA probably.

Yeah which I don't get why they couldn't continue a V8 in their flagship car. If all those models have it, surely the LS could have.

And yeah you're probably right. Maybe limited to 1,000 or so per year.

I've seem some threads on here covering head scratching engine decisions by Lexus but this might be #1.

It won’t be an all new V8. Just the current one with boost. Toyota is too cheap to invest in new engines unless they are for mass production.

I wouldn't hold my breath until the car is actually officially announced to go into production in the mass market, as we've seen from how wish-washy Toyota has been regarding their other homologation supercar.

This is DOA. It's not even gonna be up to the level of the C8 and they are trying to price it like an exotic?

Agreed, what happened to the street version on the hybrid race car that was supposed to be badged as a Toyota

so you're ok with turbo complexity, just not hybrid? you do know most every exotic has gone hybrid?

It is like 7 years behind the AMG GT and doesn't have the trump card of the V10 the LFA wielded

It's a moot point because the car being tested isn't even road legal, it's a race car meant to replace the GT3 RC-F.

it's not even out yet and you're writing it's obituary.
