Exactly. Trying as hard as you can to eek out the best mileage you can for 10 minutes is completely different than claiming that mileage is "the highway mileage you get" when driving normally.

The fact that Stroock had to work that hard to get 55 MPH out of a Corolla LE underscores why 50 MPG or even 40 or 45 MPG in normal highway driving in an Encore GX is not possible.

It's also painful driving so slow and such a light throttle to eek out MPG.

oh no of course not, that 55 mpg was just meant to be a hypothetical best case scenario situation

in the case of the prius i think it actually could put up those sort of numbers for the entirety of the tank since there was no 'cheating' with that number like i did with the corolla, although that drive did involve tailgating a coach bus for a bit on the highway to make use of its slipstream lol

And tailing the largest cars you can really close and messing with tire psi and always avoiding brakes as much as possible. I always try to see how high I can get MPG on at least one trip but I don't do things like cut AC and pump up the tires.......I can usually exceed epa but never by insane amounts

Lol I never, ever do that. I don't care how bad my cars are. My luck I'd wreck.

It was one tank of gas in the city in the LX after driving painfully slow where I was able to attain 14MPG, that's all the eeeeking I do lol. I enjoy the V8 so am stuck at....11-12. Just like this Yukon.

LOL. Then explain how my brother ALSO gets 40+ on Interstate highways with a similar type of vehicle and a larger (1.6L) turbo powerplant with more power.

What vehicle does he have? Let’s look up the EPA rating.

Able

Here's my sticker, best I have ever gotten was 24.3 over 400 miles and that's within the range the EPA expects people to be able to get. There is no way I can get 37 and that's like you are claiming to be able to get 40+ somehow in an SUV that isn't even that great with aero etc vs a similar in a car like a sonic or something. If you have a diesel I could believe it

Over performing by 67%? I have a hard time envisioning that.

Putting that Into perspective that means I would be getting 40 MPG highway in my S580. That would certainly be unlikely.

If it were possible to over perform the EPA estimates by 67% I would say the EPA estimates are absurdly wrong.

I did find one 160-mile report from a hypermiler who hit 40.8 mpg in the 1.2L (137 hp) FWD-only Encore GX using DWL (Driving Without Load) and DWB (Driving Without Brakes) techniques, with a slight tailwind, maintaining a speed between 56 and 58 when not on a hill.

For a non-obsessive in the 1.3L (155 hp) AWD version just setting the cruise at 65-75 and driving? Not a chance in hell.

^^ is totally different than saying “I get 40 mpg on the highway”. Or “50 mpg”

I agree 100%, hence my second paragraph. I was showing the lengths you have to go to and the specific vehicle configuration needed to just barely hit the low end of that range.
