Pitfalls of electrification. 5390 pounds

 

Regardless of what we think, people will get it. They see 700hp+ and that's an automatic buy/lease.

 

M5 has never been a great seller and always discounted, I can’t imagine it doing great #s due to design and worse performance than previous model.

Not to mention sedan sales continue to decline.
I think the X5M is lighter and obviously offers much more utility. If i need sedan, would just get M8 GranCoupe.

 

Last Gen 7 series with the B58 for me, so I have easy power and don't need to risk the N63. The current one is a bit too outlandish for me but if I could have its interior in an M8 GC that would be my ideal BMW.

 

There is a price to pay for all that extra stuff.

Repair bills will be ridiculous. Lol

 

Stuff we don't even want. I think a ttV8 by itself is enough.

 

I didn't think you would even be okay with the TT part of that.

 

Perhaps but there will be enough buyers for like the first 2 yrs or so.

 

I'd much rather have displacement, but a V8 is still a V8.

 

Don’t be so sure especially if rates remain high.
The XM which also is a hybrid V8 just got cancelled because nobody wanted it.
The big issue for new M5 is it’s not any faster than the old car so how are you going to get ppl to trade in their current cars for something heavier, slower and yet more expensive.

 

‘I don’t really have much issue with a turbo as long as the engine stays the same size. It’s the downsizing of engine and cylinders that really sucks IMO

 

I'd rather have a belt-driven supercharger, with the big engine. That's what we'd have, just insane cars if Uncle Sam didn't ruin all of them.

 

I doubt that will be a problem for the people who leased the last M5 and now just want the latest shiniest toy now that their leases are ending. This won't be the same problem as the XM or 8 Series which never had a strong buyer base to begin with.

 

What kind of sales numbers do you predict on this car.
I don't know but I'm guessing it will be a low production, high end model.

 

BMW sold the most M cars last year (200K) in their entire history, so I wouldn't be surprised if the new M5 outsells the old one too.

Another thing to take into account with these hybrids is that even though they are more expensive on paper than their predecessors, they won't be taxed out the wazoo in EU regulated countries (and other territories that have strict emissions/displacement taxes like China) like before which means they're actually cheaper to buy over there.
