All the luxury automakers do this with their performance brand.

BMW M-sport
Lexus F-sport
Mercedes has the AMG line or whatever.
IDK about Audi, maybe they don't.

i think a lot of former or potential sport sedan buyers now are open to sporty suv's which have come a LONG way.

i'd take this over an M5 any day.

Yeah definitely not my style either (on the outside, front seat area is gorgeous), and with all the complaints about the G90's weight, this is even heavier by about 200 lbs, and down well over 100hp and 100 lbft.

The coupe rather than the SUV? Bit, I expected better of you. :P

I asked my wife if she'd ever go X4 or X6, and she just flatly said no. They are ugly, she said. I still don't get it, but apparently they sell. Perhaps the best-looking coupe SUV, IMO, is the Cayenne coupe - it just looks like a pumped-up Macan.

As for the M5, I'd rather an X5 M instead if only for the reason that they weigh basically the same now, while the X5 is more practical. Seems like a no-brainer.

Just because they all do it doesn’t mean it doesn’t water down that sub brand and then hurts sales of the real M / AMG cars.
Its short term sales volume but diluting ///M for the long haul.

Ferrari could have easily made $150-200k sports car but that would have hurt their brand image/value.

The issue is most of these CEOs are just looking at results for next 2-3yrs and don’t care about nurturing a brand over next decade.

neither is a great looker, but amazingly, the mb suv is close to the same weight and 0-60 is 3.7 vs. 3.4 for m5.

of those 2 i'd still take the mb suv every time. but if you want a ballistically fast car, the ioniq 5 n is even faster than both and WAY cheaper, and still practical.

my point is, i think i agree with those who said this will sell in very small numbers.

One car might weigh more than the combined mass of all of the buyers of the model.

Oh they do, started slapping "S" on cars that used to just be the big engine option. The "S line visual appearance pack" non-sense as well has been everywhere for like a decade.

The S6 is still legit but the S4 is just a 3.0 engine and doesn't have the stupid level brakes etc the RS4 has

The only M5 I liked from day one I laid my eyes on, was the E39. And I had to have one.

What a disappointment and even without the beaver/pig nose grill, they still managed to make it ugly.

My old neighbor has an M5CS and it was the fastest car I've ever ridden in (and I used to race 750cc street bikes).
