Who cares? Everybody is entitled to an opinion. They say the I6 is plenty in the S Class too and I totally disagree, but it doesn’t make me mad they made that suggestion. There are people out there who own them that think the 6 cyl is fine too.

There is no conspiracy lol, the government doesn’t tell Car & Driver what to say.

Lol I'm not mad and I'm not suggesting any conspiracies.

But the green push from the mags is there and has been. You don't think they're (or can be) bought and paid for because you are on that side of the spectrum, you don't care that V8s are gone and are eager to go full EV. Which is cool, but the push was nauseating for those who aren't really into EVs. They've finally quit with it all, I no longer see 75 blogs a day on my FB about EVs anymore.

The 335d tempted me big time. I think around 2012-2013 I was seriously considering one.

Me too, I like diesels. A diesel Escalade was unnecessary. Until you mentioned it yesterday, I didn't know it existed.

The 6.2 and SC 6.2 is more than enough.

If people are buying these for mall crawlers then they aren't pulling heavy stuff.

I don't know but could explain why the diesel option doesn't sell.

You said you don’t suggest any conspiracies and then suggest conspiracies lol.

What spectrum? There is no spectrum. I can’t do anything about what’s happening so it doesn’t trouble me. I don’t let things that I can’t control trouble me. I like V8s and I also like EVs, so it will all be fine. I’ve had great V8s and I will have great EVs.

Could be. Americans just don't like diesels in light passenger vehicles, CUV's or SUV's.

Obviously diesel in pickups, 18 wheelers and CAT's is different.

It is sooo good. 13 years in and even having "replaced" it with an M3, there was no way I could get rid of it. Such an effortless drive, either around town or on the highway.

I am not an SUV person, much less a large BOF SUV person, but If I were buying an Escalade my order of engine choice would be LT4, Duramax, LS3. Not a bad option in the bunch by any means, but low rpm torque=driveability for me. And since Diesels react extremely well to it, a simple tune on the Duramax gives you >550lbft just off idle.

It’s a uniquely American thing, the anti diesel. Look at all the diesels elsewhere in the world.

Without googling it I think the 335d had 425 lb/ft right off idle. I never heard about any reliability issues either. Home run engine by BMW.

I think the disastrously bad diesels of the 80's scared Americans off forever.

They were really bad

I had the Chevy 6.2 diesel in my pickup.
It was loosing compression just after 100k.

Needed starting fluid on every cold start to get it running.

Had it yanked and a 350 V8 installed.
Now if it was a proper diesel like a Cummins, that would be a different story.

There was a non turbo diesel pickup truck in the 80's. Can't remember if it was GM or Ford. It was widely regarded as one of the worst engines ever.
