I hate all this so much but it's really not the automakers' faults.

You know half or more of Toyota engineers lovvvvve the 5.7. It's a contender for best truck V8 of all time easily.
I don't totally disagree with you, but in this case it's a combination of engineering and cost cutting. BMW can safely get between 500 and 1000 HP out of their 3.0L. Striker knows more about this stuff than I do

I'm surprised that a loaded regular hybrid RAV4 is only ~$5K less than a loaded non M-Sport BMW X1, which even has massaging seats and hands-free self driving.

And the LS500 exploding engines? We have forum members on engine #3

Everything that has that engine is having the same failure. The 2024s are having it now as well

And there is the exact problem......why would I ever buy the Toyota after I've driven the BMW? The whole way Toyota survives is to scare people that other brands aren't reliable even though cars have gotten so good it practically doesn't matter what you buy as long it's not Hyundai/kia.

My Hyundai Elentra went from 0-70k miles trouble free
And, I abused it like a red headed step child, it got no love .. lol

How long they last after that I don't know though. 🧐.

I wouldn’t buy the BMW. Long-term, too expensive to repair I am watching my brother have struggles keeping up with all the issues on his 10-year-old BMW diesel. Goodwin knew, but problematic out of warranty.

First page of google, I see engine failures in my lookup system as well for the 2018/19s now they are out of warranty. Over 5x the amount % wise vs the 07/08 LS460s that are old as hell now....

But tell me more how it's a machining debris issue?

I get that you have a dislike for Lexus. The engine issues with the Tundra and LX are not an issue with the LS. It is a manufacturing debris issue in certain model years. . It has been caught and has been corrected.

I remember and recall Hyundai in the late 80s and 90s. While Hyundai was really behind (in some models) when it came out to their designs, they never had the issues they have today. ‘Hyundai also didn’t need to offer a warranty to cover for their shortcuts like the today. Hyundai was a nice cheap car that was affordable and easy to maintain.

I do truly commend their fuel cell technology and investments. Hyundai had their new hydrogen car at the Toronto Auto Show.

The real kicker is that this generation of RAV4 came out 5 whole years ago while the X1 only came out last year. When Toyota introduces the next generation RAV4 next year, the price will jump even higher to reflect the inflation of development costs just like all their other recent models.

Interesting how you attempt to label me as someone who dislikes them when I'm actively building a collection of the things....and I've owned more of them than most people.

How many Lexus products do you own/have owned?

550hp from a 3l closed deck 9.3:1 comp ratio motor is anything but impressive - ~180hp/l. The G16E-GTS (GR Yaris / Corolla) does 180hp/l in top trim, with run-of-the-mill-for-modern-turbo-engines 10.4:1 comp. The MB m139 goes above 200hp/l with a 9.0:1 comp ratio - I wonder why it comes with electric assist. Of course, don't ask about efficiency - low comp generally means "top end numbers at the expense of mostly everything else", with the most interesting part being the many clever ways to eliminate lag as much as possible while keeping it emissions-compliant - which aren't nearly as interesting nowadays with all the electrification cheat code... which kinda defeats the point - might as well get a plaid or whatever.

What's impressive is, say, the base B58's comp ratio, power output and delivery.

Really not sure where you got that "1k hp safely out of 3.0l" - certainly not from a street engine.

I think you misunderstood the conversation. I wasn't talking about street legal, nor was I talking about efficiency. I was making a point about the 3.5tt in the Tundra being underbuilt. There are many examples of the B58 making nearly 1000 HP safely because it's built with better components. Being street legal and efficiency is a different conversation. They are 100 percent not efficient
