That bluish-gray cement color has become one of the latest fads in vehicle-production. In fact, I did a thread on that subject alone.

Well I hate that fad. Cars used to have such interesting and dynamic colours now most are some shade of blah.

Well, no arguments there. Can't say I disagree.

I'm old enough (barely) to remember paint jobs and interiors like these:

Toyota used to put in the effort. Even the lowly Tercel had a nice colour palette. Notice how the 2-tone paint scheme was a thing long before Lexus did it on their initial models.

Those color palettes look pretty similar to color palettes today

The argument that Toyota had better two-tone options back in the day is lame. People don’t care for that in the modern era. What Toyota is offering is blacked out roof options (or white) which is the in-thing today for some segments.

Although we are seeing a few more two-tone options now than in most of the recent years, the obvious reason for most vehicles being single monotone is cost. It costs more to set up the paint-process in the assembly plant for two different colors of paint on each vehicle. With my own vehicle, for instance (Encore GX), a black-roof package is offered, but only on the Sport Touring version.

I have to give Ford credit on this one, though....they are one of the very few exceptions. They have done a great job offering all kinds of different colors and patterns for the Bronco Sport....almost like the Fiat 500 and older versions of the Mini Cooper. Here are a few of the examples:

That color reminds me of Zandvoort Blue on the M2. Mixed feelings on colors like this.

I can see the Lyriq being a big hit for GM.

If people wanted it they would pay more for it. It just fell out of fashion, and now contrasting roofs are in to some degree and manufacturers are now offering them.

A few years ago people were painting their two tone Lexuses and Mercedes models one tone, so its not just cost. The two tone look just fell out of fashion.

Love the Orange Bronco Sport, and somewhat tolerant of the light blue/White. The rest are absolutely abhorrent.

Those 90s Lexus models were not two tone painted. The mouldings were just a different colour.

The lower body panels WERE painted a different color. These are sedans....not crossovers or SUVs.
