General Car Conversation 2024 - part 2

Good! My cars are the same way to me! Just, I can’t even turn a wrench lol. I have to pay for all the work.
My 5.7 is a beater, I’m at 14k miles on this oil and need an oil change and I’m taking it to a drive up 10 minute place today, lol. They did the Buick and did a good job a while back. LX is just a Toyota truck, though I am taking it to Lexus for AHC change. Hadn’t driven it in a month bc I’ve been driving the Yukon, we switched for the week. LX feels and drives new still with 140k on it.

I’m going to pump 93 in the Tundra for next towing trip and see if there’s a difference. Maybe see/feel difference in towing vs non towing.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and buy my OEM filters in bulk of 5 from Amazon. I take the LX to Lexus for fluid changes. I change brakes, filters other stuff on it myself at home. I service the Tundra along with rest of vehicles.

LOL. I’ve gone 15k miles between oil changes on my old 5.7🫣

Tech suggests we do a "gunk service" and wants to show me the oil that came out of the car.
I didn't need to see it because I already knew. Lol
Shame on me. Haha 😆

I'm in NJ, we have both cars. My MIL is having colon cancer surgery this morning (very early, she will be fine) and the kids are with my wife's sister and her family about an hour away. I let my Brother in law drive the S580 yesterday, he's never driven anything remotely like it, they're just not car people...he was blown away lol

Had a 198k mile D4 A8 in for upper control arms, I'm shocked that almost everything is factory and it all works. Service history shows nothing other than a BCM replacement at 178k miles......
No leaks, creeks, etc at all, the D4 Gen is really doing well long term! I wish my LS460 was this low maintenance/didn't need all the stuff I did on it.

Oh I can blow this thread further..
Steve, best wishes for your MIL. It is just nuts, medical tech. I think back of the lack of it when I was born 42 years ago.
So I just got off the phone with the head tech at Lexus. He won’t touch my AHC fluid unless there’s a problem. Toyota did it in NC at 80k. I have a flat 140k on the LX and want diffs and transfer case, AT fluid and maybe coolant changed. 140k seems like a good flat number to service everything for 100k and forget it.
Thats good enough for me to not spend idk (for now at least), $500 or so haha. He was very adamant. He said they just flat don’t see them, ever, with problems. He advises never messing with it unless there’s a problem.
I’m not sure if I agree. But it’s enough for me to pass on it for now and the foreseeable future.

I worded it sorta wrong, it was a friendly conversation. He wasn’t “refusing” anything. Just “if it ain’t broke”…. Head tech he’s been there 30 years.

MIL is out of surgery. 6.5 hours for a 2.5 hour surgery. Was able to do it robotically but it was touch and go whether he was going to be able to. Baseball sized tumor and her colon was all wrapped around her spleen. He thinks he got all of it though.
Very long day! I think I’m going to leave one car here and drive my wife back to her cousins so she doesn’t have to drive alone.

Good that the surgery went as well as it did.....hope she recovers fully.
Might be a good idea, if she isn't already doing it, to have her eat more fresh fruits/vegetables, whole-grains, and cold-water fish (salmon/tuna/sardines/trout, etc...)...all of which are good for colon health and have cancer-fighting ingredients.
