Simple demographics. Like it or not, the American market is moving away from sedans and coupes. Most buyers today want versatility and utility.

This has been a trend for many years, regardless it's unfortunate

do you like the new generation Type R?
What I like most about the new gen Type R is the amount of space in the engine bay to wrench. The engine bay in mine is so tight and compact. I don’t dislike the new Type R nor have I thought about trading into the new Type R. If I didn’t have mine and I was in the market for one and both around the same price, I would probably buy the new gen R. Before I bought mine I was waiting on them to release the next gen Type R but Honda skipped the 2022 year and introduced it as a 23 model so I bought a ‘21, last year of 10th gen.

...which they get with slightly raised econoboxes with 20'' wheelz, low profile tirez, run-of-the-mill drivetrain, basically no more clearance than any non-sporty car... yeah, very versatile. Given how many places I take my GS where people think you need a jimny or something makes you really cringe.

A cherokee is versatile. A wagon is versatile. A run-of-the-mill nissan rogue is a waste of space.

But then again, so is the Altima that it is gradually replacing.

At the end of the day, the Type R is a Civic, normal driving mpg is way more efficient than a 5.0, and it's way more practical... once you get past the styling
I keep forgetting you are in Cali where traffic is insanely bad, 20s average I wouldn't consider bad at all, it's a gas hog when it's under 15mpg in my book. Around here we are far closer to highway mpg as the average unless we go south into the city proper

Then your head must look like this lol

The hood is 54 inches at the windshield, for those playing at home that’s 4.5 feet tall. I’m 6’0” and the hood on a Tahoe/Suburban in reality comes up to my chest at the nose.

rental past 2 weeks has been a ford escape.

on the down side
- the suspension is TERRIBLE. it is incapable of going over any bumps without tossing the rear passengers around. really bad.
- interior is very cheap and tiny tombstone center screen is weak. i did see another 'platinum' one with a slightly bigger center screen which would help.
- the audio is ABYSMAL, my ipad sounds better.

on the plus side
- wireless apple carplay has worked fine.
- rear seats are quite roomy, and cargo space is fine
- car is pretty quiet on the road, but no performance awards
- the vehicle has no squeaks or creaks (it has about 18k mi. on it i think).

overall: i can see why kia/hyundai (design, amenities) and toyota/honda sell a lot... they're just way better.

nice. guess you haven't stood beside one. and since it came up to my CHIN (not the top of my head), it wouldn't matter how tall my head is.
