It's way better than that Benz, but that doesn't sound great either which shocks me because I know what a BMW I6 sounds like... It's not terrible but it ain't no V8 rumble.

It's insane the capabilities of it, however. I won't deny that. Smoking a Tesla like that?

That Mercedes is just a disgrace.

i can't speak in terms of in-cabin noise, but from the outside just about every S58 powered bimmer really sounds not good at all, and they almost sound broken when people slap on a burble tune lol... great engine in just about every aspect, just not exhaust sound

It has more HP than the Tesla, so that wasn't surprising. It's also double the price at over $100k vs $55k. Also, I wouldn't say it smoked it...it smoked the AMG, the Tesla was just a second behind it. That said, it's an awesome car, and the I6 is bulletproof

The M4 Comp I drove a few months back had the exhaust sound pumped in, I had my friend turn it off. In M mode it sounded awesome in the cabin as it opens the exhaust baffles

The S58 has definitely polarized people as to how it sounds. Definitely a lot of people who prefer the sound of the S55 or B58. Can't deny that it's an amazing performer though.

As long as it doesn't sound like a sewing machine (which a lot of four cylinder turbos sound like), I'm good. I'll take performance over sound any day

my friend has a 2019 540xi, that cold start sound is just 👌👌👌

after that though you really just don't hear much exhaust at all... he's entertained the idea of fitting some m sport or whatever exhaust, i said don't bother... if anything fit an intake to get more turbo sounds but typically speaking the B58/S58 doesn't respond well (sound-wise) to messing with the exhaust

I've learned my lesson messing with the exhaust. I wanted to get more sound out of my 2018 Civic Si, so I replaced the stock exhaust with a 3" Performance exhaust. This meant removing the resonator. The "growl" was awesome, but once it all wore off, the drone over 50 mph was unbearable. I spent the next few months and hundreds of dollars trying out different third party resonators with very little success. My wife couldn't stand to be in the car, and my passengers would say "sounds like a sports car", which was code for it's too loud. Unfortunately could not go back to the stock exhaust as I didn't have any place to store it and disposed it. Ended up selling the car to Carvana, who overpaid for cars in those days

I know many believe Lexus have lost their way...which I somewhat agree with, imo Mercedes has lost their way even more. Tesla doing Tesla things...for less than half the cost of either of these, it would be interesting to see a case study if a significant amount of buyers for these high performance compact cars consider / get a M3P over the Germans.
BTW I finally got to finish watching....go to 13:56 and they do a regular race like you would a light to light, with no launch control, no brake boost, just mashing the pedal and it's not even close, and the M3 CS barely beats the AMG

I remember back in the day a really clever editor compared the sound of a regular, non-M BMW I6 to Michael McDonald's voice.

I can see/hear it.

I wouldn't say that's normal light to light, I can't think of anyone who wouldn't at least bring boost up and get to converter stall.

Ok... almost normal 😄. At a red light you can't really roll. Let's just say that in a spontaneous red light race, Model 3 Performance has the advantage, but M3 CS is still impressive

It doesn't really, a red light that I intend to send it from I'll slap to S and turn off TC and bring everything up to stall/boost. Other cars are even easier and all you have to do is stand on the brake and floor it to enter LC and snap off brake to go.

It's just not a thing that matters or makes any difference really

I don't have to do any of that in either the Polestar or Model Y, and since they use one pedal braking, I keep my foot on the throttle and just smash the pedal to the floor. I've only lost a couple of times to some high end cars like once a C8. I went against my friends M4, and I can take him from a stop in the Polestar if he doesn't brake boost, roll I don't do as well.

Funny thing is, most people in cars like M's don't really care about racing, I get challenged more from Camry, Accord, Civic, Altima and Sentra drivers... don't know why lol. Nissan are the worst, they won't give up no matter how much I gap them, and a few times I had to end it because they were becoming a danger to themselves and others. I'll do one or two lights and I'm done, they will shoot by me at dangerous speeds, so I don't even bother light to light anymore

I’ll have to turn this tag in soon, but that’s a good thing.

Meanwhile I’m enjoying the parking. Your car is out front under surveillance and nobody is gonna mess with a car right by the door.

Got new brakes all around, drilled rotors look killer. The last set didn’t have them. This makes the third set of rotors in 70k miles. This car was treated like a queen prior to me. I didn’t like it at first but I’m digging the roll bar up. Makes the car look even meaner.
