Here in Tennessee I’ve never seen 91 it’s always 87,89, and 93. I only put premium in my GS.

93 is good! Every car I've owned that takes premium will say "93 recommended, 91 Minimum" except my 2018 Civic Si, which said 91 required. I had a Two Step Performance Stage 1 tune that stated the tune was done on a vehicle running 93, but 91 was OK.

A lot of gas stations don't even offer 89 anymore, Costco is 87 or 91, I think Arco still offers 89

Hi all, there are thousands of posts on the octane requirement topic in just about every model forum on CL.

THEY. NEVER. END.

I’m going to politely suggest you drop that topic here, you will come to no consensus or change anyone’s mind.

Not a great day to be these German owners.

Got new brakes all around, drilled rotors look killer. The last set didn’t have them. This makes the third set of rotors in 70k miles. This car was treated like a queen prior to me. I didn’t like it at first but I’m digging the roll bar up. Makes the car look even meaner.
Nice. What kinda tires you got? Three sets of rotors in 70K. That is terrible

I saw a Merc today. Why have good brakes but super crappy tires ?

He has Sailun tires on his SL. He hasn’t replaced them with more premium branded tires yet..

And that C Class is over a decade old. The current owners don’t know any better or care.

My grandmother stopped driving so she just sold her 2010 C300 (very similar to the one pictured) to carmax. She had Bridgestone Potenza RE980s on it. Nice tires, but I don’t think they rode as smoothly as the continental ContiproContacts it came with from the factory.

An old LS just will never die, or break....you know that. We jumped it off for the 150th time (in its life) and it needed to be run for a while to charge the battery. Alternator was tested fine.

I'd idle that thing for 24 hours straight and not think a thing of it, but that situation wouldn't present itself.

It did idle for several hours total. Now we're back in business, nice hard crank even after leaving her sitting for a few days.

Premium makes a HUGE difference in power. It makes the car fast. It feels sluggish on 87. Just reporting it, not getting into the octane debate.

more anti anything but lexus/toyota trolling.

agreed unless it's just cosmetic or something. i've only once replaced rotors on a car and that was to switch to a big[ger] stoptech brake setup.

Because I don't want to pay an overinflated price for tires until they're worn down enough, they're fine. We have tire snobs in here but it's fine, trust me the next set will be aggressive Michelins.

Re: brakes I look at it a different way. The second the dealer told them the pads are getting worn or close to yellow, they must have replaced ahead of time. Rotors need to be replaced in the SL with pads because turning them takes them out of spec. Just a part of expensive Mercedes ownership..

Also it's not recommended to machine slotted or drilled rotors, period

Correct, zero difference. But we're done with the octane talk, I just wanted to report the LS430 because it really does make a difference. Even a passenger would notice.

You know me well my friend. I'd just have them ripped out and live with a CEL on in a 20 year old car, I'd just put the picture of my spouse and I already in the cluster over the light lol.

The dealer put Sailun tires on the front of my BMW when they took it in on trade. I don't throw out new rubber so I'm going to run them until it's time to replace them.

I do, yes I do . I don't know what they cost where you live, but they are hella expensive here. One of the members in the second gen IS350 forum who also lives in Cali had his fail, he had 2008 with over 200k on it. We just told him to scrap the car when he asked what he should do because the replacement cost was more than the car was worth
