A big part of the 2JZ's indestructibility stems from it being an iron block - good luck getting that into a modern vehicle (not sure if the EA888 still has it).

On the subject of the LX again, one of the owners here who inquired their dealership about the recall was told that Lexus hasn't actually started rolling out the replacements yet, and that when it does it would take 2-3 whole weeks to get it done per vehicle. For 100K+ vehicles, this will be an absolute nightmare for the dealerships and owners.

While the gas mileage was slightly better the electronics were not as updated the 2022 Chevy Tahoe my adult daughter drives.
I thought the reliability factor would out weigh those deficiencies but now the engine recall. Yes I spoke to my dealer as well as Lexus and no answers are forthcoming.
Yes they will replace the engine sometime in the future but I am not willing to put my family at risk in this car.
The engine replacement when it happens is expected to take 2-3 weeks (Service Manager advises) for each vehicle. but Lexus does not have a plan on how to do this.
I looked into upgrading to a 2024 LX600 and had a deposit on the same basic vehicle with an expected cost to trade (20,000 miles on 2022) of $25 to $30K. They said the 2022's value would not be affected by recall but my research with major car buying franchises indicated a range of $80,000 to $94,000.
With the exception of the recall notice this vehicle (Luxury Edition) was in excellent condition.
I found a dealer willing to trade this vehicle for another brand for the top end of this range and got rid of the LX. We will keep the LS and in a few years if Lexus quality and service returns we may also.
