Toyota to replace nearly all 3.5L TTV6s in Tundra and LX

Per Ford, there were just 124 customer complaints, 300 warranty reports and one accident where the issue was believed to be the cause. That’s it, out of 668,000 recalled vehicles. Where the fix, remember, is just a software update.

ATF @250 degrees is not good fluid is probably cooked after that.
Engine locking up is just as bad.

No question an engine replacement is a much bigger deal than a software update.

If the danger is the same or worse it doesn't really matter. Though yes, a ticking time bomb of an engine is a worse situation than a software update fix.
If the transmission issue can cause a loss or power or otherwise cause an accident... no bueno.

One thing I have noticed is other manufacturers are much quicker to send recalls than Toyota...I think thats a big reason why you see other manufacturers having a lot more recalls.

As anyone who works in software engineering (and I do) will tell you, it almost doesn't matter how well you test your software/firmware in your development environments, the minute your software gets out into the wild your users are going to find exciting new ways to break it...

Toyota built up one hell of an image in the late 90s/early 2000s and are trying to make sure that never gets damaged.....problem is consumers will eventually learn what mechanics know in that all cars suck but some suck less. I just dislike how Toyota packages everything and how long the same type of repairs take vs other brands all in exchange for a painfully mediocre driving experience.

Close look at the V35A-FTS, notice the huge coolant jackets of the open deck design. Nothing unusual or remarkable about this engine but I have to say the rats nest of cooling lines is not ideal.

The F150 comparisons are disingenuous. Severity and widespread frequency of the Tundra engine issue exceeding any recall by Ford on it aside, people are willing to tolerate a potentially faulty product if it does everything well. The F150 is still the most capable truck on the market.
The Tundra meanwhile has been criticized just about every corner of the motoring journalist world as being uncompetitive and overpriced and poorly built, with the only standout being the predicted high reliability and resale of a Toyota truck. That is the entire selling point of the vehicle to compensate for its weakness. Throw both those factors out, and then suddenly the only thing you are paying for is the badge.

GX 550 owners are not in the clear yet. Their engines could suffer the same fate as Tundras/LX's.
There was also that little 145,000 recall for aibags not deploying correctly on the TX and GH.

I believe it's there due to stringent federal emissions standards designed to upsell that other propulsion system.
