Dammit, taking all my fun away. Haha

No, but seriously, I was driving a couple weeks ago with my window down smoking a cigar and a ricer car passed me and backfired right at my window.

I was thinking it was a bad tune but are these crazies doing this on purpose with a special exhaust or what?

My heart was racing and beating out of my chest, startled me. Sucks getting older.

The backfires/pops and bangs are also an annoying trend. On a BMW from the factory it’s fine but when time to enhance the pops and bangs it’s much louder and annoying to me.

Someone is out power driving in the distance, my spouse is worked up. Haha. I love it. The sound is awesome. Don’t ban or ticket the fun

In Memphis they used to do in an industrial area near the airport miles away from any residential areas. But it was still dangerous. There was a fatal drag racing incident there years ago….

It’s reasonable to expect some level of peace and relative tranquility but if you live in the suburbs, it’s no longer realistic. I live in the burbs and two main streets are near the neighborhood a bit less than a mile from my home. The fart can four bangers slowly go by (because they are slow, crappy cars) usually after midnight at wide open throttle. There have also been street takeovers on our tiny streets that have been here since the early 1900s in some cases. If I understand Jill’s point, it is wrong to be annoyed by these things.

Really, the only way to have tranquility anymore is to live away from other people somewhere with lots of land where the only barking is from your dog if you have one. There are two very common word pairings that are now completely meaningless and they are common courtesy and common sense.

I would say emergency vehicles and helicopters don’t make noise for the purpose of annoying people. The fart cans and street takeover jackasses are things done to expressly annoy people. I am resigned to the fact that nothing can or will be done about the latter 2 things. It is still annoying.

I don’t disagree with you. They just don’t bother me. I grew up in the city. These noises were nothing to me my entire life. I remember as a young kid muscle cars would peel out, so it wasn’t just the engine noise but also the tire screetching. My mom used to say “that’s right. Kill it. One less idiot off the road”. I just tune it out and I am used to it

When you make a law that says modifying vehicle exhaust is illegal it becomes more realistic, the law just has to be enforced.

They won't care, if they wanted loud and to not be annoying they would use electronic cutouts or valved exhausts and run them closed when near others. It's intentional on their part and if you ban that then they will just throw a 3 pack of cheap 12 inch subs in and do laps around the area they got reported for the exhaust

These cars don't have valved exhausts lol. They can drive along there all they want with big subs, I wouldn't hear that.
