It’s not about the quality, it’s about middle management signing off certification papers thinking Toyota internal tests is better than what the regulators specified and not knowing the full consequences.

changes are real. The 3rd generation had a real hybrid engine, with class leading mpg. The 2nd generation had an experimental hybrid that was really just a petrol engine with some batteries.

And when did the 3rd Gen come out? And when did they release an actual redesign and how is that redesign doing? I know the crash ratings have regressed for one thing......

I like the 3rd/4th Gen btw, extremely reliable other than some minor stuff. My mother in law has a RX450 with over 250k on it without major problems, it's only needed wheel hubs and the oil cooler line so far.

How was the 2nd gen not a real hybrid and just an experimental hybrid?

Akio Toyoda keeps failing up a couple of more scandals and he'll be Japan's Prime Minister.

I don’t think we need to dwell on 3rd and 4th Gen RXs in terms of when a design is finalised before they enter into production. It’s no different to any production cycles.

One thing we can agree on is that the current generation of the RX have regressed in many ways, but with a price increase while doing so. Yes, the old RXs have side rear airbags and hold up very well in a crash, the 3rd generation RX actually had no crash resulting in deaths as reported by IIHS in the first 1-2 years which was amazing given how many was sold.

very minor mpg improvement over its gas counterpart. It was like the 3rd Gen Gs450h where the programming and hybrid synergy just wasnt very smart for economy.

‘But that was intentional. Their marketing always said it was an equivalent to a V8. And it was clearly referenced in their press releases 4.0 V8 equivalent. The four wheel drive component was all electric. Electric air conditioning. Electric power steering would even turn off when driving in a straight line. Brake by wire pedal. The gas engine was programmed to run more in the city vs a Prius. The alternative option was the 4.7 V8 in the GX. I guess the RX500h and Toyota Crown Max hybrids are the replacement. But the TX 550+ still offers the older designs

Hahahahaha! V8 equivalent? Nah, my MIL once tried to keep up with the 430 and my wife called her and aske did she was even trying.

That's marketing at its finest, it's not in any way close to the UZ V8 or god forbid the UR. We let her borrow the LS after that and she was astounded how a V8 felt

KInd of like the LS600hL being a V12 equivalent right? I'm sure it's on par with those...
