Don't like SUV's, but given the choice, I would go bmw. I love lexus styling, but for some reason I just think the GX is UGLY. LX isn't that great either. I do like the RX though.

X5 4.8is... It has 360 hp, some say 380+, from a 4.8-liter V8, 7-speed automatic transmission and BMW's new awd system called xDrive.
0 to 100km/h (0 to 62 mph): 6 seconds.
Top speed: 246 km/h.
0 to 100km/h (0 to 62 mph): 6 seconds.
Top speed: 246 km/h.

I wouldn't buy an X5 because these ads that are playing everywhere are so irritating.

Sorry folks, I'd take the X5, even in 4.4 trim. If you can live with the storage, it's a great vehicle. The FX45 IS ugly - I'm sure it's a great driver, but I can't get past the looks. Too bad there isn't an RX430 sport...

Isn't it funny how whenever we have a Lexus vs. BMW thread we all come out and complain about how overpriced, overrated, and under-qualitied the Bimmers are compared to Lexus, but then when there is a specific model vs. model comparison so many people still fawn all over the BMW?
Why is that?

Sadly, the GX is probably the first UNRELIABLE Lexus
Dude, your list is very vast. The LX 470/GX 470 are true capable offroaders with all out luxury. THe X5 is a sport SUV, very sporty and no utility. What the hell is sporty of a SUV, I have yet to figure out.
It's like Car Lewis running the 100m in high heels or Dan O'brian doing the decatlathon in stilts. Absolutely stupid.
Anyways, if u have lil need for cargo carrying, I'd get the BMW. The FX is great in 35 form from 35-40k. The FX45 is overpriced for 52k, maybe a used one like JaxFl said. If u want a true SUV, I'd ante up and buy the LX 470.

The X5 looks good & drives great, but I won't put too much confidence in their reliability based on their past track record, comparing even to the most unreliable Lexus, if reliability is what one is looking for.

I will disagree on "looks good and drives great". The X5 is very bland, to me, and is amazingly small inside. I drove a 4.4i the first model year and was let down again. It feels like a tank, and when the salesman advised me to "push it around a bit to see what it can do" I just about flipped the thing over. It had the sport package, which gave it a ride far harsher than its performance capabilities would seem to demand.
In short, the X5 doesn't impress me a whole lot. Still, they seem to do fine with the soccer mom demographic...

The looks are one of the best aspects of the FX45. Best looking SUV on the planet? Its all subjective I suppose.

The styling of the FX is polarizing, but I happen to like it, it's fun to drive for a SUV , & has a sporty but upscale interior. I'll pick the FX45 over the X5 4.4 which really isn't significantly more practical.
