Default Would you buy a car with a salvage title?

Here's the situation: The car is an 02 Acura TL-S with Navigation and 12K miles. The car has a salvage title from theft. All the seats, body kit and navigation unit were taken. The car was all fixed up and all parts were replaced. Everthing drives perfectly at the moment. I took it to a mechanic and he saw absoluetly no problems at all.

The retail kelly bluebook with Nav is $31,935. I can get this for $18K.

What do you guys think? It's for my girlfriend.

If youre thinking about re-selling it in the near future, and want to get something out of it, think again. Not a lot of people are going to want a salvage title. Before I would want to buy a salvage title I'd have a 1000 point inspection, and want a look at the hard paper saying what was taken, the full report. If you're going to keep this car, and it is what they say it is, I would go ahead with it.

thats a great buy as long as there isnt any frame damage. my last car wa a 97 Honda Accord EX fully loaded w/ 30k miles. I bought for $8k when it was going for double that at a dealer. it did have some right fender and front bumper damaged which i saw b4 they fixed the car. all I ever replaced on that car where the axels and everthing else worked fine, but that was me. I was O K with that .now on the resale part as long as your honest and explain what happened and let them check out the car and there's no sign of a wreck someone will buy the car. they're great deals when its theft or vadelism salvage!

I would want it to be inspected and certified that -all- the systems work as per factory spec. Though "salavage" is vague it is nonetheless classified as such unfortunately. One thing to look into is how does your insurance co handle the value and any claims on this vehicle.

They will request a full inspection of the car before they insure it.
