This is unbelievable. You'd think a thread covering a guy's damage to the interior of his car would get some attention? Ha, think again This is getting very popular over at mbworld.org, and now it's reached over 400,000 views. Even some non-automotive forums like Playstation have made some remarks on this story.

Behold the power of the Internet!

Default Blessing in disguise?

Well, guys, this may actually be a blessing in disguise. True, it's a shame this had to happen to a 35K car, but look at it this way: With a can of pressurized paint in there, that was a potential time bomb waiting to go off if the car was parked out in the summer sun. If that can had actually exploded from excessive pressure and heat instead of just being punctured by a sliding seat, just THINK what could have happened to the occupants inside that car if jagged pieces of razor-sharp flying metal (in addition to the paint) had gone flying around. You could have had VERY serious injury or even death. Never mind the car...that can be replaced. People can't.

No.....not just a paint can....a whole lot of sharp metal pieces. That is why there are warning labels on those cans not to leave them in the heat. Making fun of this hazard will not lessen it any.

I was just trying to lighten the situation, I see where I might've sounded a little obnoxious, sorry about that.

OK.....no problem. I'm a nice guy and I don't hold any grudges. Hate to see that happen to a $40,000 car, though....that's not chump change. A Mercedes interior today, though, is not what it was , say, 15 years ago. In the 1980's they built what was probably the best car in the world, quality-wise. Even better than Toyota and Honda. Today Mercedes (along with Volvo) still makes a car that excels in crash safety and unibody strength, but the hardware in Mercedes interiors has become nothing more than junk. Read almost any long-term test from Road and Track, Car and Driver, Automobile, Autoweek, Consumer Reports, etc..... and you will find the same kinds of things.....loose trim, glove box doors falling off, shift levers working loose and falling off, rattles and squeaks, poor-quality hardware, engine and transmission leaks, etc... I myself would not buy one....I have a Lexus IS300. What is your set of wheels? If it is a recent Mercedes, I hope that you're not offended...you probably spent good money for it..... but I wanted to point this out about the Mercedes cost-cutting inside, since this topic started with a ruined Mercedes interior anyway.

Dude I don't blame you, if you check (in a few hours once MBworld comes back up) I'm one of the few pro-lexus guys there.

I have the seven spoke stocks.

My question is, how the hell do you get paint all over your car's interior? Spray can paint, is not giong to explode on you unless you really do something stupid which I still can't see how it can explode in a car. Maybe heat or something, but still, somethings not right.... Those Seats look horrible by the way, weird new Mercedes Seats I guess. BTW: do you know anyone that has had a spray can of paint blow up in their car?

ROFL.. that is funny, I mean its not, but it is... That is one reason why I would never carry a can on paint in my car... and if I had to it would go in the trunk and I would get it out ASAP...
