Red face overboard?

CLKs look really nice when all hooked up, but I question the necessity of gullwing doors in this one (picture courtesy of mbworld.org)...

Try to find a Designo edition, with the upgraded wood and leather on the interior. I've seen them with an upholstery similar to the Lexus "saddle" color.

Peter made this one a definite head turner. He hooks up all the cars for Wheel Experts nicely.

DIESEL,

Check out this thread that I started about the long term reliability of the 00+ Eclass on M/BWorld back in May. I know its not the exact same model, but it sheds a little light. There was a similar one for CLKs, but when M/BWorld went down for about 3-4weeks all of the archives were lost

"Well, FWIW, my mom's 2001 E430 hasn't stranded us...yet.

She got her car in July 2001, and it has just about 20,000 miles on the clock. So far, the a/c has died twice (the electronic controller once, and the compressor once) and the alignment went outta whack once. But that's been about it.

Good luck, they're quite nice cars."

Wow, I never knew MB reliability was this BAD. The E430 costs around 60k, how can these people tolerate these problems?? Hyundai and Kia should have these problems but not a $60,000 luxury car. I guess i have no choice but to stay with Lexus for a long time.

D, u made a wise decision going with the GS to say the least. I personally think the GS is a better car overall, even if the cars had equal reliability.

Thanks man, I think I made the right choice too! I just feel safer buying a 98 Lexus over a 98 M/B. These cars have some gremlins when Brand New, so I would not want to encounter the ones that are of the 5yr vintage!!! LOL

I love the way they look, and that mean/serious look that they have when modded, but i hate they way they look while parked in the shop!!

I would be very interested to hear some accounts of M/B owners that picked their vehicles up 5yrs old with 75-80k!! Probably be a interesting conversation!

Thanks for the link DGOT20s. Wow it amazes me that some people in that thread have REAL LOW mileage and experiencing problems already. Lexus reliability is top notch but I still drool over MB cars some of the time

I know, I've been trying to convince him to get a GS or ANY lexus for that matter . I tell him over and over again, "You can't go wrong with Lexus". Though he wants a 2-door car and for some reason, he always have this theory "if I can afford a top notch luxury car, IT HAS to be a benz or bimmer". I looked at him like this ===> He just don't know.....

edit: I believe his mentality is like alot of other people's mentality. Its "engrained" into his head that benz and bimmer are the top level of luxury cars , and lexus comes after that. I am no way bashing MB and bmw's because they are two awesome car companies, but he needs to open his eyes and realize Lexus is right up there.

Diesel here is a link to a thread about CLK problems, the guy just started it today, but his problems are common ones, i'm sure in time other owners will come on and post.

MBs are beautiful cars, and i almost bought one, but posts like this make me glad I chose to stay with my Toyota product!! LOL

The 1999-2000 CLK 430's goes roughly around $25000-$30000 right? 275 ponies is not too shabby. Looking at Wheel Expert's car, it is simply amazing!

I just want to find out the reliablity of this SPECIFIC MB model.
I owned a 2000 clk430 for 3 years,45000 kms.Total distance on this car 130000 ks.Front brakes wear out fast, they are designed that way.No other problems at all.I live in New Zealand where the roads are tight and steep.Good test of a car's reliability.
