That is one of the reasons he is wealthy today, he does not want to buy a car only to have it depreciate 15-20k in the first 6months to a year of ownership!!

Plus with 23k on a GS, he pretty much has a new car, not to mention the price he STOLE it for!!! I know how he got wealthy, STEALING CARS LOL!!!!

Although I respect your cousin's frugal ways, I think he should LIVE A LITTLE! A billionaire!!!! Do you know how much that is???

That's $1,000 Million dollars! Just think about it! Imagine you had $10 million dollars, you're rich right? How about 100x that much....you're filthy rich!

C'mon guys, give me a break, if you had a billion dollars, tell me you're not gonna have at least a Ferrari or a Lambo and a RR in the garage?

I understand that being frugal probably got him to what he is today, but he really gotta give himself a treat once in a while.

I also read some the the books mentioned (Millionaire Next Door, Rich Dad Poor Dad, etc.). They mentioned something about 90% of millionaires own their own business while the other 10% of millionaires work for Corporate America (not really sure about the percentages). So for those who have their own business, you really should take the gamble and devote your time in it.

 

well i think the people with really nice cars are rich, to a point.
hence... rappers, and flashy people are only rich, to a point.
but they are more show than go. they aren't close to being
the richest by far. if you realize how much a rapper/artist makes
in a year (millions or so) as opposed to how much 0.5 points
going up on a day for microsoft... you'd realize what rich is.

sam walton drove a beat up pickup truck. he'd be the richest
guy in the world if you add up all his heirs. richer than bill gates.
bill gates drove a LS400 for a while. he even flew economy seat
on the airplane for a while. but look at his house now. people
just have different interests and priorities.

 

The whole time I read through this thread sam walton was also on my mind. I heard that not only was it a beat up truck, but it was a beat up late 70s truck that he had always had!

I really wish I could control my spending that way, because right now instead of having debt on cars I could have paid cash for a house with what cash went into the lexus.

He's a billionaire. Assuming that is measured in net assets and not in annual cash flow (LOL) he's more than likely got enough money to buy any $100K car he wanted without his financial planner blinking an eyelid. Your cousin's choice almost certainly isn't a matter of financial constraint or self-proclaimed frugality, it's simply a matter of personal choice and / or drug induced psychosis. It's different strokes for different folks on how they spend their disposable income. Your cousin doesn't spend a lot of money on cars because he's probably got $2 million of his disposable income which could be spent on an exotic car locked up in a Barbie Doll collection in a storage unit somewhere. Don't feel bad, it's an investment.

and then the family carrier like a Gembella Porsche Cayenne Turbo

there's 98s goin on ebay all the time for $15k-$18k with 60-80k miles
